Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Re: Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Nice! The C22 is easily my favorite PRS, and that's a good one for sure.

My fave too. I would probably prefer the tone of light weight Kluson style tuners, like those on the McCartys, but the locking PRS Schallers are way cool too. :) And this puppy tunes up and then stays in tune really well.

Nice Guitar.

Refurbed on it's 18th birthday no less. :headbang:

I was really surprised to see that date under the neck pickup. Pretty cool! Like a new incarnation or something. :)

Re: Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Love the PRS stuff congrats man.
I kept the HFS/VB and 5 way rotary in my 07 Custom 24 and love the set up. Anybody that says that the PRS 5 way rotary is hard to use has never really worked with one.
To each their own and if the buckers you dropped in her are more your tone great. These guitars get a bad rap as being sterile and lifeless but in my experience they are anything but. That one is a KILLER and worth much much more than what you are talking paying for her. Take some advice on that 95 bro keep the Dragons and the 5 way because if you ever sell it it will make a BIG difference in you $$.
That is a REALLY nice score and you did well!!

These aren't Duncans Dave - these are Tom Holmes humbuckers. I bought them from Tom maybe 15 years ago and had them in a real nice Les Paul. I'm not really a Les Paul guy anymore, although I used to be, and I eventually sold the LP and they've been waiting for a new home. They're great pickups and I do like them better than the Dragons - they're livlier and brighter and get the tone I hear in my head. I did like the warmth of the Dragons and the fullness, as well as the single coil options. There's something to like about just about everything. lol!

Tom Holmes stuff is awesome. Expensive but worth it

Thanks! I was very careful removing everything and kept the wiring all in one piece. Took some photos and drew a chart. It'll all go back together again fairly easily should I want to return it to stock. You're right about the 5 way. I didn't really have any trouble with it and if these Holmes humbuckers had been 4 conductor I'd have left the 5 way intact. I like the 5 way sounds. Doesn't sound exactly like a Strat but neither does splitting a Duncan. I never thought this ax or any other PRS I've played or owned sounded sterile. Don't know what's up with that. Probably, as you said, just from not having ever really spent serious time with one. You figure out where the stops in the switch are pretty quickly once you get into it. I like the 5 way - and I like the 3 way. I like my ES-335 and I like my PRS. I like my Strat and I like my Tele - it's all good. :)

I think so too. My ES-335 came with Holmes humbuckers already installed, and I bought these double creams long before they got so sky high in price. If I'd had to buy them today, I would have probably gone with something from the Duncan Custom Shop instead.

That's a real looker Lew, good score.

I love my 97 CU22 as well, it's a similar colour to yours but slightly less Orange and a bit more Amber if that makes sense? :)

It does. Mine is really orange under the knobs. I'm kind of glad it faded some over the last 18 years.

I'd rock that for less than a grand any day of the week! I have always liked the Gretsch orange PRS guitars.

Gretsch Orange. I like that. That's how I'm going to think of it from now on.

Re: Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Happy birthday! I'm glad you're happy with your decision to part with the old comics, I have a fair bit of old clutter kicking around, I can't bring myself to get some of my old books/comics on eBay.

Re: Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Awesome!! Congrats!! Yeah, I liked it stock, but really like the Dubcremes too!! Looks less orange with them. Most importantly, what sounds better?? Anywho, glad you were able to roll that old hobby into something productive!!! I have a bunch of old beer cans and stuff, but doubt I can get anything for any of it... I do have an old Rat pack (or someth like that comic book and an old godzilla . wonder if they are worth anything....... scratches head.......

Re: Well, I sold my comic book collection...

I have to ask, what comics did you sell/do you still have? Mine aren't worth squat!

The Super Hero stuff was no problem. But I'll have a harder time giving up my 50's Donald Ducks, Uncle Scrooges and Little Lulus! lol!

I tended to collect certain artists. Had quite a few original Steve Ditko Amazing Spider-man comics - early issues. Joe Kubert Tarzans. Barry Smith Conans. Had an original typewritten Spider-man script autographed by Stan Lee. What I sold was mostly 60's Marvels and DC's. Kept my 50's EC's and Dells but I'll sell them too eventually.

My favorites are my Dell Donald Ducks and Uncle Scrooges from the 1940's and 1950's drawn and written by Carl Barks. Those will be the last to go. Those and my John Stanley written and drawn Little Lulus from the 1940's and 50's. Those are some seriously great books! You might laugh at a man reading Little Lulu, but I loved them as a kid and still find them to be extremely clever.

But only those written and drawn by Carl Barks or John Stanley. Those two guys were brilliant and most folks never heard of them or knew their names.
