Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Re: Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Congratulations Lew, it's a real beauty. I can't make my mind up about the pick ups though as they both look great with that colour. I waited many years before I got my first PRS and the only thing I didn't like was the bridge pick up, but a Brobucker later and I'm lovin it! There are some real nice PRSi here on the forum, yours is one of them.

Thanks! I'll admit that at first I wasn't sure about the double creams. The black PRS pickups with the black knobs really looked beautiful to me too. But the more I play it, the more I'm sure I did the right thing. Tone wise, I was sure I'd done the right thing right as soon as I plugged it in. But looks wise, I like the black pickups too.

Congrats bro that thing look's mojoriffic. I'm gonna assume it has the wide fat neck? Even though i'm a product of the eightie's the w\f is my fav profile...just so perfect and comfortable. I'm thinking about selling my ce-24 and getting a cu22 or another singlecut.

Lew, that is one beautiful guitar. I love the pickups too.

Re: Well, I sold my comic book collection...

Thanks guys - I love it when a plan comes together. I'd been asking questions here and getting valuable answers about PRS bridge designs and tuner designs and what not.

Gearjoneser had a bit of a hand in this because I sent him photos of the guitar and got his opinion on it before buying it. He said to offer $800 or maybe $900.

The seller was extremely honest and really made it sound like it was very worn. Gearjoneser and I were both worried that it might need fret work but all it needed was some 0000 steel wool.

The guitar has been played a lot but that's kind of what I was looking for since I knew I'd want to make some changes - I always do. :) No point in paying for a mint guitar when I knew I'd take it all apart and set it up with my own pickups and controls.

Besides, it's always been my experience that guitars that have been played a lot tend to have the most mojo. And this one does. A lot of music has passed through those pores.

I wound up following Joe's advice and got it for $800. The case was not a PRS case so I bought a PRS case for it from Sweetwater for $129. Shipping was about $40. So $969 total. I think that was a steal!

They are Tom Holmes humbuckers. At the time I ordered them, they were the same model Billy Gibbons had ordered from him. They were expensive but not crazy expensive like they are now.

Well I'd been looking everyday and looking for a long time. Put an ad in Craigslist, as per Gearjoneser's recommendation, saying that I was looking for one and scanned new listings on Ebay each and every day for a few months. Eventually, I got lucky.

I know your pain and glad you got something fun! Guitars are better than comic books because you can "read" guitars over and over and over and...you get it ;-)

Thanks Cook! Guitars and more importantly MUSIC is where it's at for me. Besides, when I've moved on to what ever's next, my wife will have a much easier time unloading my guitars than she would my comic books. :cool2:
