Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Looks awesome! Just wait, the clearcoat will make that flame POP bigtime.

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Thanks, Crusty, but I'm really not worried about the tape.
By the way, I hope I didn't come across as an a-hole. I read all that you had to offer, and I appreciate it very much!! You know how much I love you and appreciate your advice....at least I hope so.:)

FARGENUNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUSE:eyecrazy:

John, i know a guy in the States that can make you any neck you want.
A stained, same purple, flame maple and ebony board with peghead veneer would look killer.

Looking great mate:friday:

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

It should be called the Purple Nurple

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

That body looks FREEKIN grate. Just take your time, think it through, and ask LOTS of questions.

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Thanks everyone!!:)

I stained the back today. I wondered if I should have left it the natural wood with maybe some oil or something on it, but I like the way it looks stained/dyed. I did the back just a little darker that the front.

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Has it been said what bodywood it is? It looks like Ash?
I just can't belive he stained that without meticulous prepwork /grain filling, which Ash or mahogany is in desperate need of ,and it looks so good, and not blotchy and stuff,it must have been already prepped?
The back looks more liek i wouldve expected the front to be if I woulda done it.
How are you gonna clearcoat it? Thats an enormous task, and just wiping Poly or Tru-oil on it wont protect the body form dings and dents.
What pickups? If Ash, I say a JB/Jazz. If mahogany, many toehrs you have would work well.

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

I really dig that shade of purple. nice and dark.

It's gonna look gorgeous under a clear coat.

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

It's going to look very classy when it's dome JJ but I would have left the back natural.... but it isn't mine is it. Lol

Can't wait to see it finished, the mock up with the gold hardware looks ace!

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Purple is a pretty polarizing color, but you're doing a great job on that one Jolly and it looks killer :)

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Looking good but a Natural back woulda been my choice of contrast to go with the cream binding and Gold hardware.

Something to listen to while you read;

A quick update for yall. I've got the purple right where I want it. However, it's starting to get cold and it will be awhile before I can spray the clear nitro laquer on the body.

Well, I got bored and went ahead and got another. It will be blue. I'm too lazy at ther moment to resize the pics, so I apologize.

I've stained it a really deep blue at the moment. I will sand it tommorrow, and then put a lighter blue on it.

So, that's what I'm doing at the moment.....and oh yeah, the purple one is lookin sweet!!

And this is Smokey. He's a stray cat who's life I saved. I don't let him in my house. He was about half dead and half his size this past summer when it was around 100 degrees. I used to always see him running around, and he wouldn't even let you look at him. However, he was starving to death and I started feeding him. I couldn't let him die. I bet he weighed three pounds when I saved his life. Anyways, he don't come in the house, and Simon and Trip are cool with him. He lives in the front yard and in the garage...that's where I took that picture of him.
