Well just got my hands on an APS-2b

And my Kramer is about to become a two pickup guitar instead, so I'll snag the two old APS-1's neck and middle out of it, and now I just got hold of an APS-2 bridge single, but the last time I tried one...hmm it was along time ago and the guitar subjected to the test was not a fave of mine, anyone who has something to say about them??
I gather that it will sound very close to one of my old setups with APS-1's all over the line, that I rather liked, guess it will loose alittle of that airy topend now that it is a flat staggered one.
Hehe well I guess my HW-1 strat will get a pickup replacement after all;)
Eventhough I said I did not really want to..lol

Re: Well just got my hands on an APS-2b

It's great at the bridge. I have something very similar to it in my own strat. It's part of a set that came out of an Ernie Ball Albert Lee guitar and is basically an APS-2 with a steel bar on the underside. I'm sure it adds some lows, but it still balances out very well with the APS-2's in the neck and mid.

Re: Well just got my hands on an APS-2b

I've got an APS2 in the bridge of my strat too, I really like the focus that the is has and the smooth A2 sound. I've got it as close to the strings as possible and it sounds better than any other strat single I've heard.

Thanks guys, steelbar eh??
Almost like a twangerbanger then?

Think of it as a Twangbanger on a diet. It's only wound to about 7k, not much more than a standard APS-2, and it has flat, smaller than normal poles. it still sounds great and has enough beef and punch to cop a good classic rock tone and even some thick "shreddy" leads when pushing enough gain from your amp.

If you think your APS-2 is too skinny, put a steel plate under it (I used silicone gasket maker to attach a plate onto my Fender CS 62 bridge unit). it should beef it up a bit and give you more growl than normal.

Not my favourite Alnico II pickup in the bridge. I'd take a CC over it, but it's probably my second favourite.

Wuzz eh? Dude no way! I'm not using puny .2k pups man! I'm using my Jackson Warmoth B.C. Rich modified Custom Ice Pick axe with an EMG5000 bridge (packs 2350 Hz of output) in the bridge and neck with five stacked ceramic magnets powering it! And I'm using my Mesa Quadruple Rectifier that I had modded because it didn't have enough gain! Look whose the wuss now!
