After making my custom/FS hybrid for one guitar to use predominantly for metal(and loving it), i grew weary of trying to get classic tone from my custom 8. It simply pushes the amp too quickly for useful tone other than metal or hard rock. So i went back with a UOA5.. It's just hot enough to do metal if necessary, but it doesn't light up my amp when i don't want it to. i still may switch out the custom for a demon though.

I feel you man. I love my UOA5 for the same reason. But im still happy wit my C8 right now it has better cleans in the bridge then the UOA5.

I can't gel with UOA5's. not sure why. I think it has something to do with my playing style. they just don't complement each other.

The uoa5 is a miracle, so incredibly loose, but i am a really tight player. I can do thrash with it all day long and it feels so good. The intensity of my picking actually matters with this pickup.

I keep toying with the Custom 8, Custom UOA5 and the Custom 5 in my SG. I always feel better with the C5. The C8 is just like the OP described, but the UOA5 is kinda middy and spongey to me. Also, it has the worst cleans of the 3 (for my tastes) and also it's the one with less clarity.

+1. To me it's one of the best magnets there is, an ideal blend of of an A2 and A5.
