I changed the strings and played unplugged and I'm impressed with the playability. The upper fret access is really good. I'm not fond of the bridge floating up like that. I'm planning on blocking it or something. I don't use tremolo bars. Do you have suggestions?

Very cool! I dig the matching headstock and the contoured heel. What pickups are in it and how do they sound?

The intonation can use a lot of work.

The pickups are stock BKPs; ragnarock bridge and trilogy single coils. I haven't tried them yet although I've already considered SSL-2 and SH-55.

The neck smells like maple syrup.

I hope the intonation improves after I have a tech go over it. I will have it decked and, if needed, blocked too. I just can't keep it floating as the heel of my hand has always rested on every bridge of any guitar I have. My partscaster strat is decked and I wouldn't have it any other way. Mincer, isn't that why a lot of folks despise Kahler?

The intonation is so bad it's unpleasant to play up the fretboard. My other top guitars sound way better, especially my Gibson custom shop R7 that was adjusted PERFECTLY from the factory.

I hope I didn't just buy another guitar that will just stay untouched in my basement.

Is it that you can't set up the intonation yourself
Or
That it wont intonate and you have tried?

It shouldn't take more than twenty minutes with a tuner and a screw driver

Cool color and I always like the matching headstock look!

Kind of feel like I have shopped at the same store.

Also a bit curious if it truly is a maple syrup finish on the neck, or if it once resided in someone's Kitchen/Music Room.

Mincer, I took your advice to adapt to it rather than deck it.

ehdwuld, when it comes to truss rod adjustments and intonation adjustments I'm just not comfortable doing it myself. I used to pay $60 to get it done and I just had it done recently for almost $100 more at the same shop but at least it sounds much better now. The bridge is level now too.

I'm trying to love the guitar. The "floating" bridge forces my picking to be right at the mid pickup, so I'll need to lower it flush with the pickguard.

The pickups are generally dark and compressed. When arpeggiating, the unwound strings are louder, unbalanced using the single coils. Maybe a 78, PG or brobucker and a pair of SSL-2. I already have a brobucker and love it. But I haven't tried the 78 or PG. All of the youtube videos on the 78 and PG are amazing. I have a white bridge A2P in another guitar that I'm also thinking about swapping in.

I will get the wiring/pots done with one 500k pot for the HB and the other pot as a 250k pot for the singles. No tone knob. I prefer pots that are hard to rotate. The current pot is very easy to inadvertantly turn down while playing. What brand of pots need more force to turn? I spec'd my G&L for linear 500k pots and they're perfect.

Funny, I just ordered 2 YJM speed pots for my Music Man because they are so easy to turn.

I feel your pain

I have had beautiful nice guitars that I just couldn't bond with

I ha a Yamaha Pacifica that was wonderful

Something about the neck I just couldn't bond with
Great guitars

That one was different

I've absolutely sold guitars that were great instruments, but I couldn't bond with. Usually, it is the neck shape, balance, or weight.

Haha, different strokes I guess. My pinkie is always on either the volume knob or doing wah-like swells with the tone knob.
Don't get me wrong, I wish I could do pinky swells like Jeff Beck, but until then, I like smooooth.

Well, not many can, but it is sure fun to try. I learned the tone swell wah thing from Steve Morse, who uses it a lot.
