We're a DiMarzio forum too!

Has anyone else noticed how lately there seem to be a lot of questions and answers regarding which DiMarzio pickups to get?

That says a lot about this place - friendly atmosphere, good advice, good grace.

DiMarzios? Yeah, if you must.

(OK, so I'm a fan of the FS-1, but I've sold all my other DiMarzios :naughty: )

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

DiMarzio's support forum isn't so good? Oh yeah they don't have one.

Actually their email support is very, very good I have to say. Not a fan of their pups though I have a P-Bass set. I imagine when I get my Tele bass RI it'll get an SD Antiquity and cure that problem though.

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

A couple more have popped up. Given todays date, I have a theory:

Its either one of the admins, or Seymour himself, testing the "mellow" factor of his admins/forumites. :wall:

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

i dont mind people posting about other pups, thats why this is the best forum on the net.

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

I've never been to the DiMarzio forum. I'll just assume it's like their pickups...

Not my cup of tone. LOL

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

Im putting a set in my schecter once i get the money...chuck shuldiner, megadeth on rust in peace, steve vai, yngwie malmsteen, john petrucci, pual gilbert, and joe satriani like them....theres gotta be reason. It seems shredders/death metalers use em more than SD's....I need to try them!

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

Well, I've got to come clean here. I have a set of DiMarzio Virtual Vintage PAFs in one of my LPs and a Pre-B1 in my Ash Tele.

IMO, there are MANY PAF tones which still aren't covered by any ONE manufacturer's remake(s) and that's why I, in addition to having various PAF genre Duncans in SOME of my other Gibsons, opted for the VV PAFs too. There are many PAF tones to be had from this set which I've yet to find in any other brand. Better? Not necessarily. Worse? Definately not. I just really enjoy these rather unique combination of differences. Oh, and FWIW, they are a double creme set in my LP Gold Top.

As to the Pre-B1, plain and simple, I think this particular pickup is EXACTLY what a pure single coil Tele pickup ought to be for today's stylings: Total vintage Tele sound with more mids and lows. The highs are still ALL there too yet they won't call dogs from a 5 block radius near.

Both models have EXCELLENT air and sustain with just the right amount of power.

Ironically, I love these aforementioned DiMarzio pickups but that's pretty much it for me where DiMarzios are concerned.

As stated above, some of my Gibsons have various Duncans. I also use Kinmans in my Clapton Strat, Wagners in my LP Std, Fralins in my LP Pro Deluxe, OEM Toaster Rickenbackers in my 330/6 and I happen to really like the OEM Fender neck pickup in my Ash Tele; go figure!

I'm sure pretty much everyone can readily agree that no ONE "high-end" pickup manufacturer could realistically have a monopoly on any veteran player's complete tonal package unless said player chose to stay locked in to only one succinct style of music.

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

It's good that we're showing DiMarzio pups some love! :) I'm a DiMarzio man, but I love SD's too. Both companies's pups provide very different sounds, and the world of guitar tone would be pretty bland if we only had one of them!

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

I dig both makers, and I have had great customer service with both companies. I tried a JB, a 59 and a Jazz in my Hamer Explorer, I just didn't get the vibe with em. I went with a VPAF set with A3 magnets and am in love with the guitar. But with my Strat I did not like the VPAF in it and found the A2 59 to be amazing in it. I love the Jerry Donahue and the Virtual Tele equally ... Both companies offer very cool things, in some ways I feel DZ takes a few more chances sonically for both good and bad results. But both lines have room in my arsenal.

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

I think it's great that this board is that flexible. Most giant companies crap their pants whenever someone mentions the name of a competitor, let alone on "company property" which this sort of is. The reason I don't think it's a huge deal is because the big ones (Duncan, Dimarzio, and EMG; honorable mention Bill Lawrence, Rio Grande because they make great ones too) all have a different flavor to them.

In my honest opinion Seymour Duncan makes the widest assortment and highest quality pickups out there. I own guitars with Dimarzios, EMG's, and Rio Grandes and like them all, but I'm also about to go out and buy 3 More Duncan pickups soon. It all just creates a healthy economy and competition for all the guys involved, and more stuff for us to argue about! (I mean discuss)

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

Actually I use Duncans,Dimarzio, and CS Fender pickups all together but in various guitars of course!

I agree with all of you. The other forum I visit (via Guitar Player) is also very informational with a lot of great people, but I have really been impressed with how friendly and knowledgeable and helpful, etc. that everyone is here.

Kudos to Seymour Duncan for facilitating an open dialogue.

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

Yes, this IS a great forum. Many of the people on here have been EXTRAORDINARILY nice, helpful and have provided a great sense of community.

A board is only as good as it's members. Jeremy, Scott, Jolly, Evan (where are you man?) - you guys are the real deal. Without you this is just another board. :notworthy

The guys who work at the DUncan factory are also nice and informative.

In addition, the guys who actually WORK at DiMarzio are AWESOME as well. These guys know their sh!t if you have a question about any of their pickups. They are VERY fair and have the same 30 day return exchange policy, etc. Since I live here in NY, it gets to you the next day.

And I think everyone would agree that their tone chart is amazing and uncannily accurate. The Duncan chart can take a few pointers from it!

And just like a Duncan JB, DiMarzio makes some pickups that are in classes by themselves.

My fave: DiMarzio SDS-1 single coil. My favorite bridge single coil ever made, bar none. It is actually one of my favorite bridge PICKUPS ever made (single OR double).

No need for bashing of any particular company. It's all about the sound and what works for you.

:)

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

I have no idea what they sound like. I am a hopeless SD groupee :D

Re: We're a DiMarzio forum too!

I think we're all here for one reason: we love pickups :D

I have/had some different companies myself. Seymour Duncan, EMG and Dimarzio. I am eager to try some Lindy Fralins as well. They all have their respective place.

The Duncan Antiq. are wonderful in my Les Paul. With an uncovered A5 bridge and a A2 covered neck, I get warm, but glassy cleans, great vintage-esque classic rock tones and a killer blues tone.

My Dimarzio VirtualPAFs are pretty nice. Kind of a more modern PAF tone. They have the clarity and brightness to them, I just need to figure out how to get them to really sound great with blues and rock out a bit better. They still have their respective place.

My Dean at the moment has its stock pups, so Duncans will probably fix that.

I also think when I get a Tele, I'll try a set of those Lindy Fralins.

That's the beauty of having more than one company produce pups, you get different voicings for different applications. I love how there are so many different takes on the popular PAF humbuckers... Tom Holmes (probably THE definitive pups I'd like, but way too expensive), Timbuckers, SD, Dimarzio, Fralin, Rio Grand probably has some etc....
