I've owned 2 different versions of the Whammy pedal over the years: the 2nd version and the reissue of the WH1 (4th version).
Neither allow you to play more than single notes whilst pitch shifting without it turning into a horrible garbled mess. Good for effect sometimes but not really very musical.
The newest version of the Whammy pedal is available with a drop tune/chordal pitch shifting that's meant to be very good but I haven't tried it myself.
The Morpheus Droptune pedal (which I do own) is also good at digitally tuning your guitar down for you, although I find it sounds best when not dropping the tuning more than 2 or 3 semitones.

There's a software update for the Morpheus that goes a long way to getting rid of alot of the 'fakeness' that JMH151 mentioned.
I've also found that the further you're asking it to droptune, the worse it sounds. That's why I don't use it for more than 2 or 3 semitones.

Ah, if that's the case then I've found the Morpheus with 2.0 software update works very well for that.
Although I do hear very good things about the droptune on the newest version of the Whammy, it's just a little too rich for my blood for me to have gotten 1

I use an expression pedal with my Eventide Pitchfactor and it acts like a Whammy on steroids. Dropping a half step is absolutely no problem. It is very clean and precise sounding and does a lot more than simple pitch shifts. The nice thing is you can assign the expression pedal to almost any parameter. There is a $200 difference in price but IMO you get more bang for your buck.

Perhaps not what you are looking for but the Mooer pitchbox also is a nice pitch-shifter. It has a detune mode, but I think that one mixes in with the dry signal, instead of only shifting it... I have it coming through ebay from the east, so wait a couple of days/weeks and I can tell you for sure...

I have the whammy DT. Playing chords sounds great, even distorted, and its got interval tuinings on the right side. It sounds, as long as your gutiar is tuned well, like a guitar being tuned down a half step up, down, etc. This is then added to all the whammy goodness of 1-2 octaves up, down, etc. Get the DT, it's worth the money.
