The 81 does it no prob but i am having a problem finding a passive that does?
it is when you play fast the notes have no drag to them?
like they are real staccato(like a machine gun)
Paul gilbert got this effect when her used a duncan custom on the "intense rock guitar" instruction tape.

not sure, if youre saying that you want more sustain or a more legato sound or ...

if you can hear the begining and ending of the note id say that the problem isnt clarity

same guitar and amp?

jeremy, have you ever seen paul gilbert lesson tape Intense rock I?
at the begining of it he "goes off" and his lead tone is VERY very staccoto.
or in other words EVER note is very spererate from one another and NO SMEARING at all :saeek:
his rhythm is also killer, VERY PUNCHY
I heard he used a duncan custom in his ibanez on it with a ADA mp-1 preamp
I am tring to get it with a 97 lone star strat
i have tried a dmarzio super d, super 3,tone zone,jb,DD, and the only pup that gets it is the EMG 81
i want a passive for this strat

Why not try out a Custom? ;) I have a feeling you'll love it.

sounds like a custom would be a good choice for you. tight and punchy with great mids
