What amp for under $2250 US ???

Essentially, from lots of hard work and selling of gear - I had 2250 USD to spend on an amp + cabinet.

I chose the Mesa/Boogie Mark IV (used '01 model, Mint condition, with new tubes) and Avatar G212H custom (black tolex/black grille, v30/g12h30 ).
This will come 3rd week of January... still waiting...


What would you have chosen?

Either a Bogner Uberschall or a Orange AD140, with of course a cab with either of those fine heads

Fine choices, I didnt know an Uberschall could be had for that price.
However, I would have likely taken an XTC, if I had the chance to a/b with a mark IV.

Funnily. I have never, ever seen an avatar cab, because they dont ship overseas (im importing one). And I have never, ever seen a mark IV.
However I bought them all the same!

I was recently looking for an amp around $2000, so I picked up a Soldano-designed Yamaha T-50 for $400 and put the rest in savings. :laugh2: This thing sounds AMAZING stock, plus Soldano will do several mods to improve things even more.

I don't really know, too many options. Propably a JCM-800 or Peavey 5150 with a Mesa Rectifier 4*12 cab and a Mesa 1*12 cab. Other for home, other for training place.

Probably a Bogner XTC, if it could be had for the right price, although, the likelyhood of me having tha sorta money is slim at them moment to say the least!!!

I have no idea what amp I would get. But I have that exact Avatar cabinet you are getting. It's a very nice well built cabinet. It's a bit bigger than most 2x12 cab's. It come open back, but for another 20 bucks, you can get a closed back panel, too. And have an open or closed cab depending on your mood. Enjoy the new amp & cab.

Framus Dragon... it's the only amp I want more than my Ruby Riot.

That Mk IV should rock though man, great amps... congrats.

Avatar's open cabs aren't completely open, more of a half-open type thing. Bass response is NOT a worry haha.

Already chose my amp. I lost $300 on my Hot Cat to get ahold of the very first dual channel amp Ben Fargen ever released. He did the clips for the Epic 30 online with it. It's one AMAZING amplifier. JMI-era type Vox AC-30 on channel 1 and Marshall JTM45 on channel 2. For cleans I can finally nail U2 stuff and for distortion, I've finally got my more compressed, smoother distortion that I've been hearing in my head. I definitely get the Goo Goo Dolls vibe from it (which is what I've been looking for for what seems like forever, basically a modded plexi type tone).

Ben Fargen is the man. He updated the amp to newer specs (it was a used older amp). He installed a pentode/triode switch and he voiced the clean channel to sound better with single coils and the distortion channel to sound better with humbuckers. Now all I'm probably going to do is upgrade the speakers and get an attenuator... whether it's in 30w or 15w mode, it's a BEAST :headbang:

Best $1850 I've ever spent on an amp. The best dual channel amp I've heard so far, both channels are incredible without sacrificing a thing.

Of everything I've played so far, nothing blew me away like the Soldano Hot Rod 50+. I'd shop around forever with that kind of money to blow for an amp, but with my current experience, Soldano HR50+, hands downs. Funny thing, I've laid down over $1500 each on a few guitars spontaneously cause they grabbed me, but I just can't do it with an amp. Congrats and enjoy!
