What amp was Clapton using around the time of the Rainbow Concert?

I just bought Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert from iTunes, since it was just 6 dollars, and I was very impressed by the tone Clapton was getting. I'm guessing he was using a Strat at that concert, and he was getting such a good tone there. What amp was Clapton using around that time? An example of the sound that I'm looking for is on Crossroads from that album. The main riff just sounds so thick and raw, and its such a great sound. Thanks!

I just googled the H out of the subject, and I didn't see anything. I do know that a couple years later he was endorsing Music Man; I don't know if actually used them.

Clapton did use his Blackie strat on most of this i know for sure...

But Pete Townshend played 2nd guitar as well... i believe Pete used his 57 Gretsch Chet Atkins that was smashed in 73 and glued back together.... there is video of Pete smashing that guitar at the end credits of the Kids Are Alright movie... He always used that Grestch thru a 60's Fender Bandmaster.... At the show i heard Pete also had some Hiwatts and Gibsons around but used the Gretsch mostly

So Petes tone is in there as well as Claptons.... Clapton at the time was recovering from drug abuse and had sold much of his gear off for dope... I do think he was using new Music Man amps for this era....

I don't know what he used on stage on the concert, but as stated, he was in a downward spiral of drug abuse at the time, and was staying at home, not gigging at all. Pete Townsend dragged him out of his house and told him he had to start playing again.

For that, Clapton, as well as all of his fans owe Pete a big thanks.

This was before he started using Music Man amps.

Believe it was a Fender amp - not sure of the model or year as I am going by memory.

My favorite track from that CD has gotta be Badge.....I'm pretty sure he's using a Paul of some sort on that song.... there is a picture, either on the front or back of the sleeve of him with a Lester. The sounds on Badge from that CD are a little more "chunky" than what you hear from Blackie. I'm not a Gibson guy, but thats one of the sweetest sounding solos, to my ears.


As for amps though.... I have no idea. lol

he was using a Fender Dual Showman. If you listen to the live Derek and the Dominoes album, he gets a similar tone. I think he was using one of those on that tour as well.
