What amps have great cleans and take very well to distortion/OD pedals?

Re: What amps have great cleans and take very well to distortion/OD pedals?

You are kidding, right? A Classic 50 should be much more mid-rangey than a 65 Deluxe! I would think the deluxe would be way better!

Well, it depends on the clean you like I suppose. An AC30 has a great clean to me, as does a Matchless. My El Diablo has great clean tone (modern) as well. So it is a taste thing.

I have to agree with the Roland Jazz Chorus as well. Totally forgot about that one! (I'm not sure how it takes to pedals, though.)

It sounds good with Boss/Roland effects, from what I've heard. Not sure about how it sounds when you're using pedals from other manufacturers.

nope not kidding... my all original 1965 Deluxe amp is not the best sounding amp i own for Clean tones... I use the Deluxe with a few distortion pedals once in a while... The C50 head has some seriously nice BIG clean tones.. i use that head into either a Marshall 1x12 or my 5150 cab.... sometimes i mix in a little piezo with my neck pickups on my Godin for some extra sparkel but it sounds good on it's own without Piezo... A little chorus here and there and a neck pickup.... wow...

I like the C50 clean sound thru those cabs better then i like my C30 combo's clean tone thru it's own speaker and a matching Peavey Extention Cab... That little marshall cab i have with the 150 watt speaker in it can be cranked with the c50's clean channel and it still sounds clear as a bell...

I've heard many nice SS Clean tones over the years... Roland JC120 started that i guess. I used to love a Fender Ultra Chorus amp i owned for that crystal clear SS type stereo sound, but it was lacking something... When i visited the Peavey Warehouse in the mid 90's they had a room that housed a bunch of old wrecks and discountinued amps.. They had some sort of 2x12 SS chorus combo that was sitting there and we cranked it up.. Clear as a bell and the windows in the front office of the place were shaking! It had the SS Clean tone for sure that i loved from the Fender only better, but had some guts for sure.

For Tube Clean sounds i also love the Fender Hot Rod series for clean sounds.... Hate their OD channels but the Cleans can be big and full... Twins are nice as well, there is a nice custom covered one i see on discount that i'd love to buy....... But my heart would love to own a Bassman Reissue oneday after hearing what Albert Lee did with one of those and his signature model that has the 3 P90's in it... Nice!!!!!

Lots of Fender amps out there make nice clean tones.. But in my Case the Peavey's do wonders for me
