^^^ Been researching this for the last two weeks myself. Mission amps are supposed to have the best component list, and the best schematics/build guides, and a whole bunch of build tips for flawless results.

Bruce has owned and worked on hundreds of vintage Fenders...he knows them and he knows them well!

I had a Clark 5e3 w/ a Red Fang that sounded great. Someday I'll have two of them I hope. One didnt quite float my boat.

Re: What are some good 5e3 clones?

5E3 is the last revision of the tweed Deluxe circuit that goes back to '55 and is usually easiest to spot as a 'narrow panel' cabinet - the amp you pictured is a 'wide panel' cab and those were around from about '53-'55 or so. The one you pictured is either a 5B3, 5C3, or 5D3 circuit. Another way to tell them apart is the grille cloth - on the earlier amps, there is that plain maroon fabric - on the narrow panel 5E3s there is actual woven grille cloth.

Before '53 the cabs had a rounded speaker opening - those are called 'TV fronts'.

Thats why not

Re: What are some good 5e3 clones?

Well, why not?

That is a wide panel - someone explained the possible circuit. The amp in your picture in the middle of the 1st lower row is a TV front amp. The cabinet frames date the amps. Your picture shows most, but I don't see one from the late forties that had the angled front with the vertical steel brace.

- an apparently Amazing picture.

+1 Mission kit is awesome. Quality of the cabinet itself is incredible. Bruce's support is outstanding. He answers emails within hours and he'll work through any problem with you in detail. He answered emails all through the weekend during my build.

Here's my Mission build: https://picasaweb.google.com/100464068399435916354/5e3Build?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCJLTxvTK8_TCWg&feat=directlink

Only thing I changed is I've swapped the stock Jensen C12Q speaker for an authentic vintage Jensen P12Q.

In the end it deosnt matter much. Any.. and I mean ANY reish sounds nothing whatsoever like a real 50's tweed amp.
A real 50's tweed is astonishing beyond all belief, and reish is just pretty good.

It does matter...many 5E3 clones sound little like a real 50's 5E3 and some sound VERY close.
