I think most of the quality builders day look much alike inside these days.

Sara's work....

It's not just about the look though or just the parts used...there are some builders that use quality parts and still end up with junk...

YouTube Greg V / Tungsten Creama Wheat.

Tungsten makes the 12'ish watt Cortez, and the higher head room 20watt Creama Weat.

THAT is where i would put my money - with Tungsten !!!!

My 2 cents

Nice amp - but at 20 watts not a 5e3. A reissue will not stay that clean. I would guess they are cooking the plates on the power tubes(?). Very nice amp. At 20 watts you could jam with it. My clone runs around 16 watts and a 22watt BF re-issue can easily over power it, which is why I am having a Bassman put together. I have played jams where standing 8 feet away from my clone with it dimed I cannot hear it (I don't go back). For blues it typically works - for rock - I would not try. For practice volumes - heaven.

Just out of curiousity, isn't it possible that there are amps based on the 5E3 circuit that have been tweaked/modified so that they are clearly not intended to be clones and that, though they will obviously never sound like a vintage 5E3, sound very good in their own right?

Absolutely - especially in the right hands - just like the 5e3.

Re: What are some good 5e3 clones?

a loud speaker in a 5e3 makes a big difference. i had a red fang in mine for a while and it was surprisingly loud. you can also use a 5v4 recto tube to up the voltage, not a vintage sound at all but very cool none the less

isnt the celtic franklin a 5e3 ?

dont think so. aislinn 6v6 is the 5e3 (i have one) the franklin is a matchless lightning or something like that
