What are some iconic solid state amps?

I think the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus would qualify. What else? (If any.) I'm assuming these amps would be known for a sweet "clean" sound, but not necessarily.

Quite a few iconic tube amps. Are there some SS equivalents?

Sunn Beta series gets lots of love in the heavy music world.

Orange CR120 is dope too.

Re: What are some iconic solid state amps?

Interesting. I'll have to "google" a couple of these. I'm familiar with Sunn, but not the others. I guess SS doesn't quite get the "press" that the tube amps get.

Re: What are some iconic solid state amps?

peavey ss amps were the go to for steel players for decades

Re: What are some iconic solid state amps?

Ampeg makes some great solid state amps (bass and guitar) as well as tube amps. Their reputation is one of bulletproof dependability.

Pearce amps

And as Rex mentioned, the Peavey Bandit is the SS amp everyone has plugged in to at some point.

Re: What are some iconic solid state amps?

Nice list. But are these "iconic", in the classic sense of the word? What I mean is, almost every modeler I have, has a "Black Face" setting. (Not necessarily under that name.) What would be some SS amps that would be "modeled" simply because of their place in history. The Roland Jazz is one of those.

Was the HiWatt SS? Most of my modelers include that one too.

Re: What are some iconic solid state amps?

If I made a list off the top of my head of the Top 5 gigging solid state guitar amps (not counting micro stuff and practice stuff like Pignose, Bandits etc)

1) Roland Jazz/JC and any derivatives -best by a mile
2) Sunn Concert/Colloseum/-especially Lead Beta etc -especially if you want Metal) (see Melvins)
3) Acoustic Amps 70s and 80s series and others from that era -very high end SS in their day.
4) anything Peavey late 70s to late 80s series and derivatives -all of it was good to great.
5) 60s UniVox stuff were surprisingly good

-honorable mention:
60s Standel, 80sRandall, Kustom (for their notorious style)
