What are the SD recommendations for a 2009 basswood ibby with IBZ's currently?

After having this guitar for years and liking the stock pups ok, I think I might experiment with something else.

FIRST QUESTION! Trembucker is for bridge right? I'm guessing that SD doesn't care about the neck (It's called F spacing in ibby talk)

This is going to require much thought. I think, what I want is something with better harmonics w/o losing the edge the IBZ's have. More mid in the bridge and more "definition" in the neck is what I'd try to describe as my want.

Just a quick browse has me interested in possibly the "Saturday night special" in the neck and the "Duncan Distortion" trembuck for the bridge.

All thoughts are welcome, except for anyone that says "crunchlab" in which you will spend and eternity having to listen to "Rebecca Blacks greatest hits" for your sins.

Does your 2009 have stock Ibby V-set or the IBZ/DMZ? (my 05 has the DMZ)
I think you have V-set (my 08 does, well it did until recently) but just making sure so we know where you're at right now.

Trembucker for the bridge, and you can probably get away with a regular humbucker for the neck. Best is to take a ruler and just do some measurements. If the center of the low E to the center of the high E is anything more than 52mm, get a trembucker.

You can't go wrong with a JB bridge and Jazz neck in that guitar. JB has great output, mids, and harmonics. The Jazz has great clarity and definition in the neck. You can also try a 59 in the neck and a Distortion in the bridge, you'll be happy with that set too! 59 is a bit warmer and richer than the jazz, still pretty clear sounding. The Distortion is a total beast and enormous sounding, if you play hard rock or metal you'll love it.

Fun fact:
I have a standard spaced humbucker in my F-spaced Strat bridge. All 3 of them. The high E is just over the end of the screw pole and slug. When I bend, the E,B,and G strings move toward center screw and slug which means it keeps it's volume, and if anything, it might even get a slight raise in volume, but not that you could hear, you'd have to spec chart that one.
So F spaced or not, I like either just fine. And I bet most folks who know me here would agree I am a lot like the OCD detective in the show "Monk". Just sayin' - not being a smart ass or anything.

most likely, a Tembucker in the bridge, and normal humbucker in the neck...here are the official measurements. What kind of music do you play? What amp do you have? What tone do you like?

Forget the IBZ! They sounded way too shrill and hot for my liking, so I went with a Parallel Axis Trembucker set on my RG870RWZ (PA-TB1b, PA-STK1n and a PA-TB1n), now the guitar has all the warmth it needed, harmonics jump out of the fretboard and all shrillness is gone.

Interesting, that is pretty close to how I describe them myself. Tone wise, I'm more Lynch than Satch, if you know what I mean.

I don't play this type of guitar too much, but when I want to get my jollies with the super wham, I'll pull it out.

This guitar is my one-trick-pony guitar that I use when I want to pretend I can shred  I use amp sims (booooooo, hissss, he's not a real player) hehe

I get good tone out of them :D

Just for reference sake here is the "official" description for the IBZ/DMZ set.

It's good you have the deeper routes that will take about anything.
The units routed for the V-sets are several mm shallower so some of the thicker-mag pickups won't fit (without modding) and still have proper string-clearance.

Re: What are the SD recommendations for a 2009 basswood ibby with IBZ's currently?

Yours has a Floyd Rose?
I'd suggest going high-output in the bridge, or at least medium. I don't think the low output Duncans and Ibanez RGs match all that well.

My suggestions:

Medium output: JB bridge / Full Shred neck. Harmonics, mids and power in the bridge, and clarity in the neck.
High output: Distortion set.

I don't think you'll be wrong with either of them.

The DD is a high output :)

I am starting to wonder about the parallel axis as some of the tone examples seem to be nice.

Not sure about the visual. You'd HAVE to have matching pups at the very least.

I think P. Axis pickups just don't look well unless your guitar is monumentally nerdy to begin with, so I wouldn't have them.

Yeah, I'm shallow and vain. Do these jeans make my butt look big?

I've never tried them though and plenty of brothers here love it, so there you go.

Next weekend I'll post some some pics of my RG with the PATB set. Weird, yet awesome!

I must be one of the few who thinks that if something sounds good, then it looks good.

No, I have that vanity thing too. I'm not saying the IBZ's are the best looking pickups I've seen, but I wouldn't want the invaders, for example. I also don't care for the majority of Bare Knuckle pickups.

The traditional SD pickup (one side with adjustable poles, the other fixed) are the best looking pups imo. Black is cool, Zebra is better (depending on the guitar) ... I'm boring like that.

I'm not opposed completely to the PA's though, they are cool enough. If they kick but sound wise, they'd probably look good in this ibby:

If the pickups are directly mounted onto the guitar, I recommend getting DiMarzios. Otherwise, PATB is the way to go.

For the neck I'd go sentient. Most well rounded neck pickup they make. Has the clarity of a jazz and the warmth of a 59
