Re: What are your favorite picks?
Those fat meaty ones on the ends of my fingers.

I used V-Picks (forget which model - the standard Large thick one that he started with) for quite awhile but could never jive 100% with the clicking and chirpy attack. It's hard to play dynamically with them too I found. And honestly the trade off in speed vs. using a regular pick was negligible for me. I get way more dynamic response out of the Hercos I switched to.
That's interesting, I stayed away from V-Picks until just recently because of that clicking and chirping. For some reason I don't mind it now, and one of the things I really like about them is the flip side of the chirping _ e.g. their bright and lively tone and attack. Anyway, any chirping there is doesn't come through an amplifier. I would be more bothered by the pick attack noise with my acoustic. For that I'm playing a thin Gravity pick, which is largely quiet but still has that nice brightness. Not sure what you mean by dynamic response... I tried the Herco's and would think they have LESS, not more of a dynamic response. Interesting: our definitions must be different.
Thanks for your response. I guess I'm not hearing that one-dimensional lack of dynamic response like you are - probably because I play electric with a pretty light touch, and actually like it a little brighter all the time. True, I'll never get the "strumming with the thumb" or Wes Montgomery kind of tone with the V-Picks. I use my thumb or fingers if I want that sound. On acoustic I use a thinner (.75mm) Gravity Classic Standard size. It does seem to have some of that varied response you're talking about, that the thicker Screamers don't have. It's still bright, but it flexes, which I think mitigates some of the chirp also, because I'm not hearing that when I play it.
Just out of curiosity - have you tried the V-Pick or Gravity "ultra thin" models (.75mm or .8mm)? To me they're pretty much like a different kind of pick compared to the really thick ones.
Cheers.
