What are your top three "shred" pups

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
If you are making a single HB shred axe (no floyd), what would your top three pups be?

Re: What are your top three "shred" pups

For a "shred only" axe :
Duncan Full Shred
EMG-81
Dimarzio X2N

For a bit more versatility than only shred :
Duncan JB
EMG-85
Dimarzio Tone-Zone

Re: What are your top three "shred" pups

Steve's Special
Mo Joe
A2P

I bet that looks weird.. Dimarzios I like for my stage guitars because they always have the same specs from pickup to pickup and those two are the ones I would like for shred. I use the Mo Joe now because it is more of a rock pickup but the Steve's Special has soooo much clarity. It is really tight always. The Mo Joe is awesome too but is fatter and more PAF like (compared to the SS IMO). It's not super duper clear like the Steve. As for the A2P it is just the clearest sounding Duncan I have ever used. When I used to use the A2P it was because I loved Slash and that was really only why I got them. But using it now it is a very clean sounding pickup in my rig. It wouldnt be my first choice for the bridge in a shred guitar but if I was needing a PU that was nice round and warm for the neck I would slap it in there with a SS in the bridge.

FULL SHRED
Screaming Demon
Pearly Gates
Mo'Joe

IMHO pickups used with lots of distortion need to have the bass rolled off for clarity and definition thru the distortion. Boosting the bass back at the end of the chain or after most of the distortion works best for me. ;)

Re: What are your top three "shred" pups

Evo2
Mo Joe
X2N
EMG 81
EMG 85
D-activator
Afwayu ceramic(motor city pickups)
Nuke(motor city pickups)
Full Shred

just some more suggestions...

Re: What are your top three "shred" pups

Alt 8 Hot fat SMOOTH and big sounding!
Custom -8 The ultimate hair band SHREADDER and more. This is the pickup Duncan should offer!! Warm, big, articulate, sweet and HOT!
JB- It's the standard for the single bucker super strat of the late 80's - 90's like the Gunslinger, Baretta ect!

Re: What are your top three "shred" pups

The JB has always been my go-to for shred guitar. Hot and clear without being too over the top, nice compression, and very versatile.

Next would be the Steves Special. I've always love the sound of this pickup.

Then last would be the Pearly Gates. I like this one more for early VH style shredding. Fat without too much compression and clear with a nice bite to it.

Strange question from a man who says that PG's are the holy grail. Now that I've bought a pair of PG's and am getting a guitar to put them in. Do you have a split personality? I feel betrayed.

Re: What are your top three "shred" pups

Hey - I dig all kinds of pups for all kinds of things. Mostly I like ceramic in a bridge. Then again, I do agree the PG is the best LP neck pup there is. But I really believe my original 79 T-top neck is the Holy Grail.

Of course, nothing beats P-90 goodness...

I'm a complex dude.

PS - I say get an Epi LP Elitist to put the PG's in.
