What chords am I making here?

I was dinking around tonight after everyone was gone to sleep and put together chords I have never played. They sound super amazing with a washy clean chorus/flange. What are they though? Any thoughts?

Re: What chords am I making here?

Looks like A(add 9).

Assuming standard tuning, it looks like you're holding down (from low to high) ... A, E, B, C#, the top strings may be ringing open, hard to tell.

Re: What chords am I making here?

Very Andy Summers. Try adding delay in synch with the song tempo.

Re: What chords am I making here?

Very John Petrucci as well when played with distortion, but yes, A (add 9) - or A5 (Add 9) - if you really wanna be a dweeb

Re: What chords am I making here?

That's what I have been told. Thanks for the knowledge. It sounds really sweet with distortion. In gonna have to add some delay in there as well with some verb and see just how washy I can make it and it still sound good.

Side note:

I use a few of these to spice up regular power chord progressions. Another great one is to put the 5th in the bass.

For ex.

go B5 (Add 9) - B F# C# to
C5/G - G C G

both of these use the 6th, 5th, and 4th strings respectively.

Re: What chords am I making here?

There is a Metal Church song that uses those exact shapes for the main riiff...I can't remember the name, but it's on their first album.

It could be called 'A5' if it didn't have a third, but it does ... in this case, C#, making the basic A Major triad (and obviously also including the B but no sixth or seventh, making it A Major (add 9), more commonly called simply A (add 9).

This. Sus4/5 'chords' are really diads as the third is replaced with the fourth or fifth.

Re: What chords am I making here?

Yeah, an Andy Summers chord, although Allan Hodswoth and Alex Lifeson use variations a lot. I am more apt to play that than a straight A or Amaj7.

Re: What chords am I making here?

Hodswoth.

I enjoyed this misspelling. It sounds like a collective noun for real ale containers. I reckon that Allan Holdsworth would approve of that.
