Hey guys just wondering what software you use to record your stuff. Did you download it on the internet or buy one, cause ive been looking for one and havent found anything. LEt me know what you have thanks

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

I run Cubase 5 and have been using Cubase since SX3. I had a brief stint with Logic, and own Logic 9 as well as ProTools LE 8, but I do 99% of my work in Cubase and will for the foreseeable future.

For 'free' software, check out Reaper. It's shareware, but it can be downloaded and used (legally) for free.

Reaper --- free download.

I had been using Audacity for years because Reaper was half-cooked when I tried it 5 years ago; but when several recommended it again this year when I was looking for a DAW, I tried it and it blew me away. It was completely different, a lot more like Logic than freeware.

Love it.

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

I am currently using Audacity which is a free download. It is simple to navigate and works just fine as long as you don't need too many bells and whistles. You can fiind plenty of information about it here.

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

I use Sonar 7, and got it from a friend of mine who has a home studio. Fantastic program.

Audacity.

Kinda sucky middleclassish but you can be sure it will never be taken away from you by the vendor, when you switch OSes or machine architecture. Given the state of the Linux sound subsystem some Audacity oddities are the least of the problems anyway.

WHat do you mean only used "Legally"???

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

I started out with Cool Edit Pro (that I paid $400 for, because I used a pirated version for years) and now Adobe Audition (basically the same program with a different name and some updates).

Cakewalk SONAR 6 LE, mastered with Audacity. Both freeware (one came with the used synth I got from my older bro).

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

I currently use Logic Express 9 on a brand new iMac. So far so good. Some of the included plug-ins kind of suck, but on the whole it's a very powerful and intuitive system. For recording guitar, I actually like using the Amp Designer and Pedalboard plug-ins. My latest Riff Off submission used the Treble Booster pedal into the UK Modern amp (JCM 800).

In the past, I have used Sonar 6 (which I really enjoyed) and ProTools LE 6 (which I have an intense hatred for). Long, long ago, I used Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 (the last version before it became Sonar).

Some shareware is generally full-version software that you are highly motivated to purchase, but if you don't buy it, you can still use it.
As opposed to "the only way you're getting a full version of Sonor 7 is to buy it, crack the demo, or steal it".

I started on CoolEdit96, then Pro, then 2000 Studio, then Audition, where I am now.

Do you find Cubase hard to use? I have the older LE version when I bought the Omega interface from Lexicon. I have not really been able to learn to use it fully.

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

dang, i must be the only guy on here using abelton live. i use the lite 5 version that came packaged with my line 6 ux1 toneport.

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

I used CoolEditPro for a while. Never found an Adobe Audition though. Currently trying out Cubase SX3 and trying to stick that only for the drums (EZDrummer) but I'm finding it hard to find rhythms I want.

Re: What computer software do you use to record???

I used to use cool edit pro - I liked some of its features and how it was laid out. the version I used was pretty archaic.

used cubase for a bit, it was nice. kinda hard at first. version I had was a step up from cool edit, but a step down from logic.

many years ago I really wanted N-Track, but never bought it. the demo made it look really cool. I'm sure it's super dated by now, if not extinct.

used audacity for awhile, still do for quick things.

use reaper a bit for goofing on the work pc, testing out vsts and such, accessing non-mac vsts when I need them.

use logic express at home for "serious" stuff; does the trick.

Started out on Audacity, its a very good program, but somewhat limited.
Tried out ableton live lite (line 6 edition). Didnt really like it. Tried reaper earlier this year, since it supports VST Instruments, and man, is it way better than audacity. So much more powerful, easier to get stuff done.

Reaper is not freeware, or shareware.

The Reaper site said:
The evaluation version of REAPER is complete and uncrippled. There are no artificial interruptions or restrictions, and you can save and load projects normally. We believe in giving you a fair chance to make sure that REAPER works correctly with your hardware and suits your workflow.

The REAPER installer simply copies REAPER and its support files to disk. It does not install anything except itself.

If after 30 days you decide that REAPER is not for you, simply delete it.

If you decide that REAPER is for you, you must purchase a license.
It is worth the purchase price. Its only $60 for a program that does a lot (if not all) of what an expensive program does

I used Ableton Live Suite 8.0.
Not cheap, but the workflow is incredible once you learn how to use, it inspires creativity and it just works well, period.
