What delay pedal are you guys using?

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

I think for $99 bucks, the Digitech DigiDelay is hard to beat. The analog sim is pretty darn good, the mod delay is great, it loops, has tap tempo, and is built pretty well.

For $80 more, the boss DD20 is a monster. My other guitarist in my band has one, and I have Delay envy.

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

I use a Boss DD-20, and I can't imaging ever wanting another delay pedal.QUOTE]

So...
1. Can you loop a rhythm track and solo over it? (for example)
2. Can you change the delays easily with your foot during a song-either the type of delay/echo, or the intensity?
3. Are there presets/are they easily accessed? Or, do you have to hold that high a in a 40 second vibrato while you're bent over fiddling with knobs until you get delay #2 dialed in?

Thanks,
Dave

Guys-thanks for the advice-really great stuff here...
Can the Boss DD-20 do these things, too?

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

Maxon AD999 and Ibanez AD9 (vintage).

I wouldn't mind getting one of those Boss SE-20 Space Echo pedals or a Fulltone TTE. I'd love a real RE-201 Space Echo (I had a chance to A/B one with a TTE and I liked the RE-201 better) but most are worn out and I don't want to put up with the maintenance headache on them.

See my post on p.1

but, if in Question #2 you mean change the delays as in editing stuff (like the feedback, effect level, etc.) then you have to bend down to twiddle the knobs. But you can have your changes saved as one of the four presets....

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

Right now I use a Deluxe Memory Man. I love the sound of it, but there's an attached preamp to it that I do not like at all. Causes the whole sound to clip. Not good. So I'm trying to sell it/trade it for an old Boss DD-2.

OK-I'm with ya now. I thought that you were talking about the DL-4 at first and not the Boss. So, it sounds like both have similar features and capabilities, but the DL-4 has a better looper.(?)

Which is your favorite?

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

Oh sorry dude, my bad for not being clearer.

For me, I like the Boss delays and functionality better. But yeah, the Dl-4 has a better looper, and I also like the ducking delay (I think it was called) where the delay doesn't start until you are done playing (keeps it from getting muddy).

The biggest thing I didn't like about the Line 6 was that it had less presets, and the rhythmic delay didn't do dotted-eighths.

The Boss has a few things that not many people know about, like being able to change the function of the footswitches.

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

Had:
2290
RE301 Spaceecho
Yamaha analog 1005 delay
Boss DD-2
Ibanez AD-9
Boss DM-2 and 3
Ibanez 2 sec digital delay(green metallic thing, between the 10 series and 9)
Boss pitchshifter and delay something...
And a few more that I have forgotten...
Have now:
Red Repeat
Prototype XL with toneknob mod
Echotone prototype
EH Memoryman
Roland Spaceecho 201
Some strange Peavey digital 19" delay...one of my friends has borrowed it..so I forgot the name!
A Delayla that I gave to AH^DK...hehe
I am not missing anything really.

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

I don't claim to be a delay expert but as of yesterday I started using an EH Deluxe Memory Man.

I traded Keith my DL4 for hiss DMM because there was so much on the DL4 that I didn't use, and it had more time than I would ever use. I found I really only like using 3 or 4 settings. The DMM, EP-2/3, and DM-2/3. For FX I did like the volume swell and delay though. That's the feature I'll miss most. I didn't use the tap tempo hardly at all.

Normally I prefer a pretty dry signal, but I'm changing my mind these days.

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

I love delay. Currently I've got:
EHX Deluxe Memory Man
Line 6 Echo Park
Boss DM-3
Maxon AD-900
DOD FX-90

Each one is good for different things. I really want a Diamond Memory Lane and a pipe dream is a Toneczar Echoczar. I always have that Echo Park in the loop, so easy to get a god sound out of it, with less hassles than the analogs. (I just put one of them in the signal path if I want it' specific tone)

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

Boss DD6. I would love to have a DL4, but it wouldn't fit in my pedalboard.

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

I'm using a DLS Echotap, but I'm really intrigued by the new Eventide Time Factor pedal, sounds like it'll be amazing. In the meantime, I've really like the sounds of the clips of the Analogman AR-20DL analog delay pedal, so that'll probably be my next one. The DLS sounds pretty darn good, but it's not fully transparent, it changes your stock tone very slightly (but the perfectionist in me searches on).

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

As mentioned here Im using an old EP-3 Echoplex and adore it...those are so cool and sound so good B Bent had to have one after hearing mine! When IM not running the EP-3 I use a Boss DD-5 but there really is no comparison IMO...

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

a dl-4, which is worth it for the looper alone, but an awesome delay too- it can also mimic a chorus, overdrive, slow gear and auto-wah if you set the knobs right.

for rack stuff, i use an echoplex digital pro for looping.
as far as what i wish i had- one more of each!

How would you think an AD-9 would do as a "reverb" for my Laney AOR???

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

I used to use one Line 6 DL4 and one EH DMM, but I traded the DMM to Luke Duke for his DL4 -- so now I use two DL4s. :)

I'm using the looper more and more, and cascading the looping is something I'm interested in experimenting with. Hence the interest in two DL4s in a row.

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

Digitech DigiDelay, plus whatever delay is built into whatever modeler/processor I happen to have plugged in. I'm getting really into cascading several different delay settings into one another. A Line 6 DL4 is definitely on my short list.

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

danelectro dan-echo!

nice and analogue-sounding.. has a nice range of sounds and delay lengths!

i got it in a trade, but i forget for the life of me who with!

Re: What delay pedal are you guys using?

i always wanted a Boss delay but those darn things can be expensive.... for about 10 years i've used a pair of DOD delays... they are crappy really but work... the make a blip, blip, blip, blip noise in time with the delay infront of the preamp... but in the fx loop they are noise free.. odd!!!

i bought a Used Ibanez Tone Lock Delay a few years ago... only cost me $60 Canadian.... it's not bad and offers 2 different types of delay... has a switch that turns it from a digital delay sound to a tape delay type sound... And it is quiet infront of an amps preamp...

But odd part out of the DOD's and the Ibanez, the DOD's are warmest.....
