Re: What do the pro's use?
I gotta say, I never thought I'd be a Duncan fan, but there is something special with the Duncan single coils. My favorite humbuckers are Wolfetones, but the Duncans just do such a great job of keeping that traditional quack and bell like tone with the warmth and versatility of modern pickups (at least with the APS-2s and the APST-1). I tried jiving with Van Zandts, but in my particular guitar they were too thin. With the Duncans I can use them with both of my amps with pretty good success (the Vox does really bring out that chime though).
When it comes to single coils I use only Seymour's pickups. I have some Fralins and Rio Grandes and Van Zandts. But they're not in guitars and I'll probably sell them someday soon.
However I do really like Joe Barden's pickups and his rails pickups are humbucking but they do not sound like Seymour's. The Barden's are my favoite single coil size humbuckers.
I have a set in my '54 Tele and a set in my G&L SC-3. Excellent pickups.
