Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

The knobs have to go. Otherwise a beautiful guitar.

Black or silver pearl for the pickguard would possibly improve things, especially with that unusual shade of red.

I like it! Sometimes mint just doesn't work with a finish color but here it works well. BTW, I know a guy with the same color scheme/blacktop setup who actually went with Fender parchment/white AMP knobs on his (like what you'd see on a Super Sonic) and it looks great; it really pulls togther the appearance. Something about the black knobs just doesn't sit right with my brain. LOL.

I don't think you'd want it to be too strat-like, or else if makes the nickel covered humbuckers seem all the more out of place. I think the different knobs unifies with the different pickups. Even the strat selector tip bothers me, as if it forgot to vacate the premises.

Love candy apple red. Goes well with pretty much every pickguard I can think of. I like it with black personally but mint green is very classy too.

Mint green guards to me go best with that old school barely see through white/blond.

Yeah I hear you. In that case I would move to some form of metal knows and a switch tip in whatever color pickguard you end up so that it doesn't stand out.

Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

There's a lot of aesthetic precedence for those knobs being combined with covered buckers. The pick guards are all black, but I think the green goes better with the red in this case.

Yeah, the amp knobs might/would work with a black pickguard.

Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

I like it. I just got a Ocean turquoise strat with a mint pick guard and it looks great too. mint pick guards with maple necks seem to look great as long as they don't clash with the main color of the strat.

Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

I never thought this would look good, but the longer I own it, the more I REALLY like it! Candy-apple-red with a Mint-Green/Black/Mint-Green Pickguard.
What do you guys think?

It looks ok to me. In a good way. Something seems off I think its the black switch and knobs. I think, you really gel with this guitar, when that happens, everything looks good :) . sort of a growing love for it. :) . I like those covered pickups.

Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

If it was a naturally greened/yellowed cellulose guard, I might dig it. But I've never seen a uniform/tinted mint green guard that I like. I would go for Parchment instead. It looks like white unless you hold up a white guard next to it; then you realize that the parchment is ever so much softer of a white. I like it a lot because it is not as brash as pure white, yet it doesn't look sickly/sleazy like uniform/tinted cream.

As for the knobs, I would say that if you must go away from regular Strat knobs, then go for Tele knobs. They will work well with the covered pickups. The black switch tip also isn't looking good to me.

Mint green is a lot darker than parchment, so they're not quite so interchangeable. It will change the overall brightness and contrast between the base color and the pick guard. A closer match is a "cream" pickguard, that gives you the same brightness in brownish hue instead of green. You have to be careful when you buy them online because some vendors seem to think "aged white" means "parchment" and others regard "aged white" as "cream".

With regard to natural aging, and uneven color, I think that makes sense on a relic or an actual old guitar, but if you have an otherwise new guitar, a genuinely faded / aged green pick guard would look especially out of place, because it would the only "imperfect" part of an otherwise spotless guitar. Mint Green gives you the contrast and color of an aged guitar while respecting the fact that it's in factory fresh condition.

Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

I'm really thrilled to see such varied opinions on not just the guard but the knobs and such. I personally dig the knobs, but I have tried it with white knobs and switch tip and if did look good. I really dig the color combo with the nickel pickups.

Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

It's definitely green when you contrast it with any other white or off-white.

The third one is mint green:

I was surprised to find that it looked good with aged white plastic pickup covers and knobs. I have brownish-aged pickgaurds on hand, but for whatever reason the mint green looks better against some colors. It just pops.
I tend to reference real color combos since they just look "right". The Mint guard with aged/cream plastics looks great, I think because we've seen it so many times. The Olympic white combo with mint/aged is probably the best use of it too! I went with this combo on my Ice Blue Strat for a subtly vintage look.

With mint guards, the more subtle the better. When it looks like mint ice cream or grasshopper pie, I'm not a fan. When it makes you do a double take its awesome. Same goes for the parchment guard. Just enough so it doesn't look factory fresh bright white.

On the guitar above (red) I think I'd prefer parchment. I do like the chrome covers and I agree Tele knobs would looks great with the P/U covers.

That's one of them Blacktop series Strats right?

I love the Teles - been thinking of getting one myself actually.

The knobs don't really work on that finish or that pickguard. I'd change out the knobs for Tele-style barrel knobs and you're good to go. Great axe otherwise.

Re: What Do You Guys Think About This Strat Color Scheme?

It sounds hideous....but in actuality it looks very nice!
