What do you guys think the best current production "Mid Priced" amps are these days?

This is all completely subjective of course. Since everyone has different tastes, ears, wants, and needs out of an amp. Just curious to see who you guys think are the big dogs in this arena and who should stay on the porch.

Let's say the price range is between $500 and $1000, but don't get to hung up on that since there are really good amps that fall just under like the Jet City JCA22H and I'm sure there's others just over that price mark. Also curious to see who you think might be big contenders in this area with the likes of the Marshall SL-5 and Laney TI-15 shipping soon.

Does the Egnater Tweaker 40 fall in that price bracket?

I so want one.

Most bands I go to see play half stacks with 50-100 watt heads. The heads sell new for about $2000, so that is the mid price for a new head in my world ;)

If that was my budget for a new amp I would pick up a gently used Fender Twin.

I think it does. I've not looked at the Egnater stuff much to be honest.

I could see myself owning a Twin. Well, I'd probably opt for the Super Sonic Twin, but if I ever wanted a super loud squeaky clean amp, the Twin Reverb is pretty much king of that hill IMO.

Hovercraft amps.

There's an Andromeda or a Falcon in my not-so-distant future. Those amps look awesome, and it seems like a hell of a deal for the build quality. Where else can you get a hand built, 2 channel head with reverb, switchable tonestack and voicing, and effects loop for under $1K?

I will have to give the nod to Jim @ Li'l Dawg amps, but it really depends on what your criteria is.

I would try a Laney Ironhorse 100. I think that's the right name lol. But, the best budget metal amp IMO is the Peavey 6505 and the plus version if you want to have something that is American made and built to last. I've seen some real nice Marshall and Mesa stuff used at Music Go Round before.

I'd be going with either a Super Sonic 22 or Twin. I think the Twin would be out of that price range, but I really like the 1/4 power switch on it. I think/hope I'll be getting a Super Sonic 22 this year.

Fender Super Sonic 22, DRRI, BDRI, least expensive-Excelsior (w/ an Emi. Lgnd. 1518).
Guess I'm stuck on Fender for the music I play.

I've never heard of these 2 companies before. I'll have to check them out.

The whole topic is basically criteria based Twilight. It's cool to see what else is out there though. So much cool stuff on the market these days.

I've never been a big fan of the Peavey stuff. Although I did really like the 3120 I played.

If I could swing it, I'd get a SSTwin. I like the SS22 as well, but I think I'd probably go for the head version if I were to every go down that patch.

And there ain't a dam thing wrong with that. Lots of players get excellent tone from a from their Fender amps.

Princeton and Deluxe reissues, and the Ampeg GVT line. Those are the only amps at or below $1,000 that I liked when I was shopping extensively for a new amp last year.

I might get flamed for this... But for the money, bugera makes a great amp. They need retubed and biased out the gate but otherwise are very good affordable copies of American amps. I have a 6260. Ruby tube 6l6s and jj gold pin pres. Rebiased to normal levels ( was WAY cold when I got it) and I think it sounds great. My rhythm player had a block letter 5150 and our tones (other than pickups) they sound identical.

It's horses for courses, man. I am sure that I would not get on with your Burgera any more than you would get on with my Champster.

I just don't like the fact that Bugera are blatantly stealing designs from other companies. I mean for chrissakes, they hardly even rename them. I don't support Bugera as a company and I don't like that other people see no problem supporting them. If you save up a bit more money, you can get a much nicer amp and have a clear conscience.

If you're a clean/pedal guy, it's hard to beat the blues deluxe.

How is it different from any other clone product out there, including your beloved fuzz clones? It looks like your main issue is the fact that the company is Chinese.

If I could afford it, I'd probably get a SS Twin head and just run it on 25 watts all the time. For the places I play, 22 watts just makes more sense, and is easier on the wallet!

My conscience is clear, man. And "nicer" is relative. You're just being a jerk about it.
