Nice looking Tele - like the colour and also the upgrades. Better bid on it before I do :kidding: But I think its going to go for a lot more than the price there as no one has reached the reserve price.

It's got a reserve of $599 on it which isn't too bad, but I think I night end up spending a lot on it 'upgrading' as I think I might not like the vintage style neck.

Then you will need to add $95 for postage and insurance and then the dreaded customs duty and VAT. If you are going to start to replace the neck would it not be sensible to check ou if there is anything better or closer to home and slightly cheaper?

OK it maybe a bit more pricey but it has the correct neck shape, radius etc. which I like on my guitars, and has some decent pickups in. It probably would work out cheaper than an american tele, but i'm not sure. The american teles don't come with hum-cancelling pups though.....

Check out some american teles either locally or on e-bay and then if you need to change the pups that might be a way to go?.

The first post that you did for that nice looking Tele works out to approx $850 including tax etc (that is if it it goes for $600 + $95 postage). Which is about £463 - might be worthwhile buying it and then you could pick up a neck or pups after or just sell it??

I may just go for it and bid on it. That is a pretty funky finish and who knows, the neck and the pups may be just to my liking!

I never really buy stuff and think of it's resale value, so your chances are I will change something on it, which would probably reduce it's resale anyway.

I have a few issues with that ... in a way to me, it's neither fish nor foul, in that the finish doesn't look like a '52, the guard is cosmetically wrong (easily changed, though), and I would rather see a vintage bridge myself on those reissues.
Also, if he was going for the full Keith treatment, I would have thought he would have added the humbucker at the neck.

I was not aware that basswood was known for its beauty either, and I personally don't find the finish as attractive as say, a true ash bodied butterscotch finish.

that said, if you like that particular guitar, bid on it.

I think you may be happier with an American ash tele, or if the hum cancelling is a big deal, take a look at the American Deluxe tele.

It's just a personal thing, but I'm not a fan of maple tops on teles - the tele's inherent simplicity and traditional nature, to me, lends itself most to a solid alder or ash body.

i kinda like the finish on the body but thats about it. but i am not a big tele fan in general specially the single coil ones.

it looks really nice, good upgrades too. not a terrible price right now, id go for it, def has mega-tone capacity,

I think I might pass it up. I can see me spending more money on it changing it to how i want it. The thing looks nice, but ultimately a guitar is a tool for sound, if it looks nice then it's a bonus.

its a really nice tele, but being as your in the UK, I think you would be better off buying closer to home. what with postage and VAT, you really arent gonna save anything buying from Japan. Just my 2 pennies.

unfortunately this is the truth...

i was gonna try and take advantage of some of the great deals you get in the states - those schecters with duncans as standard or maybe a cheap strat... stuff off chris guitars caught my eye as well - there were a few wolfies..


.. anyway - import tax and VAT is a killer and spoils the deal and thats the moral of the story :(
