Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?
Line 6 Spider III 30. I can crank it to where it sings and it doesn't destroy my ears, but it can still keep up with a drummer. Cleans sound warm and authentic, the Marshall mode sounds RIDICULOUSLY good for band practices, really like the real thing. I like the Mesa mode for home practice, but it doesn't fill up the room with sound like the Marshall mode does. The Mesa mode was supposedly improved on in the Spider III and its thick and full but not too buzzy. The Insane mode is a decent gained-out tone, not all that useable but fun sometimes. You just have to play with the amps EQ, bringing up bass and mids and cutting treble to warm it up.
I got the smallest model you can use a footswitch with. No artist presets, just 4 modes. I love how they're programmable, because I can tweak and tweak without ever having to write things down, I just save the setting if its better or not save it if its not. Sounds great with my strat and Les Paul. At 200 bucks, it was a steal. Sounds very similar to the tube amps it emulates without the flaws or hassles - no post amp EQ, boost pedals, multiple speaker cabs, or tube swaps to get this thing to sound like it should. Really a sweet amp.
