What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

I'm so happy with my decision to go from a Mesa Halfstack to (eventually) a Peavey Combo. It's much easier to transport, and I can bring it home to have the same exact tones.

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

Line 6 Spider III 30. I can crank it to where it sings and it doesn't destroy my ears, but it can still keep up with a drummer. Cleans sound warm and authentic, the Marshall mode sounds RIDICULOUSLY good for band practices, really like the real thing. I like the Mesa mode for home practice, but it doesn't fill up the room with sound like the Marshall mode does. The Mesa mode was supposedly improved on in the Spider III and its thick and full but not too buzzy. The Insane mode is a decent gained-out tone, not all that useable but fun sometimes. You just have to play with the amps EQ, bringing up bass and mids and cutting treble to warm it up.

I got the smallest model you can use a footswitch with. No artist presets, just 4 modes. I love how they're programmable, because I can tweak and tweak without ever having to write things down, I just save the setting if its better or not save it if its not. Sounds great with my strat and Les Paul. At 200 bucks, it was a steal. Sounds very similar to the tube amps it emulates without the flaws or hassles - no post amp EQ, boost pedals, multiple speaker cabs, or tube swaps to get this thing to sound like it should. Really a sweet amp.

Newer Peavey Bandits always impress me for low volumes.:knockedou

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

one home set up i'm thinking of getting is a keyboard amp or powered monitor system so i can run the POD thru it and get the full range sound of the sound banks reproduced right.... I'd love a BOSS GT8 floorboard!!! that may very well be my next buy

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

An acoustic. Seriously, I only play the amps at pratcice/shows and if nobody is at home but me.

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

actually can be a bit of good practice as well as you've got to be really clean and articulate in your playing to hear the notes and get any sustain.

+1. Actually not just a bit of good practice but a really good practice. ;)

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

I don't go for super loud when I'm jamming with friends, so I use the same equipment at home by myself. I have a 35-watt tube amp head, which I run through either a 2x12 or a 4x10; a 60-watt solid state bass combo, and a 25-watt solid state combo, into which I put a pro audio speaker for use with my bass.

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

I use mine 100w tube head and 2x12 marshall cabinet. :headbang:

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

Fender Frontman 15R! :lmao:

No, really, I like the cleans. And, with my Boss ME-50 running through it, I can tweak it and have some fun still.

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

6505+ halfstack with the volume knob turned down.

If I want to play something cleaner, my champion 600.
Unplugged electric is often my choice as well.

Sometimes when I'm surfing the net or watching tv I'll have my guitar in my lap and just noodle around.

When I've got loads of gain and a compressor I can get a little sloppy, but when the sound is 100% from my hands, thats a different story.

Doing that always ruins my pick attack, because when I'm playing unplugged I have a tendency to pick like to prevent any buzz. Then I go to play my amp and my pick attack is all over the place. When plugged in, my pick attack is usually intended to keep the amp driving as hard as possible. Of course, ignore the stuff in my signature when it comes to that.

Starforce amp. Little Korean dealie that I picked up while stationed at Kunsan Air Base. Nice little amp, even if it's solid state. Other than that, I'd just my ME-50 plugged into Line In on my computer's sound card, or into headphones.

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

my 50w, non master-volume bassman. hahaha

i'm trying to come up with a solution for when i'm at my apartment though. I'm thinking of grabbing a fender champ 600.

It depends on the size of the apartment. I had mine in the apartment and I really couldn't get it louder than 2 without a formal written complaint from the super (not to mention the informal complaints from the neighbors ... hey not my fault they worked night shifts).

For the record ... no more apartment, so now it gets cranked.

hmmm, thats slightly disheartening.

I doubt my neighbors work night shifts though, thankfully. I know the guy on one side of me won't complain, he's a friend and a musician, but i dunno about the people upstairs. I've only had them complain once, and that was when i borrowed my friends 1000w powered sub and used it till 3 AM...... ;)

I think i'm going to go play through one of those with my gibson today, though. I tried it with a strat and dug it, but i'm not sure it breaks up quite enough for me.

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

I'll either grab an acoustic or just an unplugged electric guitar.

I bought a little Vox Valvetronix a few months ago with the intention of using it for practice and I still prefer one of the above.
