What do you like/dislike about the C5?

I had one in an Agile LP copy a few years back and wasn't crazy about it. The mids were a bit scooped for my liking....but it could have been the guitars fault as well. Most people here seem to love this pup, so I'm thinking of giving it another try in the bridge of my DTM Singlecut.

Lack Of Mis in my charvel basswodd body, floyd rose, 6 strings.
but, in my fender, also basswood, but with a maple cap, and mounted in the pickguard.. it sounds OK.
strange
ahahahahahahah

Hmmm I dunno. I might go back to it or an A3 Custom. It had a beautiful tone, I just sometimes wished it was more robust. Mind you, depends on the rig. Of my 3 amps, my Mk2 has beastly girth, so you don't need robust with that, as an example.

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

I like that it sounds fat and full for a bridge pickup.

I dislike that the extra bass can sometimes be a problem.

If you don't like scooped mid pups, you probably won't like this one.

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

The huge mid scoop makes it not suitable for metal but it could be very claassy sounding for classic rock .

Its the C really, I don't like the C. It reminds me of that crazy Sinclair electric bike flop back in the 70's.:smack:

Mid scoop? ....... No! Elevated highs and lows.....OK. A C5 in the right guitar and right amp can do metal anytime, anywhere.

Black Sabbath, yes. Slayer, no.

If this is true a pickup that can do slayer must sound **** clean.

Ever listened to an EMG 81 clean? It's not the most pleasant thing to listen to.

Same thing to me, the scooped mids and the heavy bottom / skinny top kind of sound to it; just didn't work for me.

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

Its so dependant on the guitar, every guitar is different, JB/59 sounds alot different in my friend's mahogany ibanez than it does it my mahogany schecter even. Both of us have 24 frets, both use d'addario 10's

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

and with an eq you can adjust mid scoop, you can play any type of music with pretty much any pickup with the right amp, or pedal. Some are just better than others. You guys should know that, hell i'm practically a newb.

I would HIGHLY recommend a screamin demon though over C5!!! You guys have to try this pickup out, what a nice sound! on every guitar i've heard it on its improved the sound, and it can play great cleans to
extremely good metal

What's your favorite bridge pup in an LP style guitar bro?

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

in my bright les paul, the c5 sounded really thin, so I tried it in my Dean Hardtail (darker sounding guitar) and its perfectly balanced, sounds good clean, and has no problems with slayer

Those who think that the c5 is scooped and thin, should try a JB instead.

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

What I didn't like about it (in a Les Paul) was exactly what a lot of people seem to love about it... that it bridges the gap between "vintage" and "hot". To me it always sounded like a compromise, lacking both the subtlety of a '59, Seth etc. and the full-on punch of the Custom. It just didn't excite me either way. :dunno:

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

I feel the same way as Simon. In every guitar I had it in, it just seemed a bit flat and characterless. It does have awesome thump and chunk though. ;)

Re: What do you like/dislike about the C5?

When I first got my C5/59 pair, I liked them, but didn't "love" them. I've since discovered that they're the almost perfect Tele set. The C5 is a very close 2nd place behind my Antiquity II as my favorite Tele bridge, in my 2nd favorite guitar.

If you haven't tried it, its a great Tele bridge pup.
