Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

Definitely, the feel is definitely there with the Yamaha (perhaps neck is a bit too wide but not by much) but the sound does not convince me, meanwhile the Fender has that classic strat sound and also a nice small baseball bat c-shape neck but both the fret thing and stained fingerboard (that reduces value which is very important in this deal) make me lose my sleep. BTW, you HAVE to say which would you take, I'm not gonna base my decision on what you think but it's still fun to know

It plays beautifully, probably better than it looks, and it's so rare... You're right there's also the beating that the strat has taken, I'm worried it might lower the price of the guitar too much fro my taste.

Well if you insist ok. I would go for the strat myself. Reason being, I like the classic guitar designs and love the strat sound. I do think Erik H has a very valid point about the wear on the fretboard. I didn't think about that when I posted.

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

I like super strats. But not all. That Yamaha is a nice superstrat. I like that fender too. I would probably go for the trade. But if you doubting then don t do it. Better safe then sorry.

This is how I personally would go about with it. How does it play & feel in your hands? Does it feel good then something can always be done about the tone. As one forum bro said go with the one which will make you want to PLAY and not just stare at.

I personally would go for the Strat. Not too fond of Floyds, though in the future I would definitively get one guitar equipped with it.

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

Yeah try the strat first, but on value alone I think you should do it.

The Strat is certainly worth more, even w/o the original pickups (but I would ask if he has them lying around). That's a good trade for you.

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

I'm not keen on the nearness of the low E string to the edge of the fingerboard/neck on the Fender. I do not believe that this is just an illusion caused by a "low quality" photograph.

In the OP's position, I would sell the Yamaha for cash and put that money towards the guitar that he REALLY wants. i.e. Ibanez JEM.

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

... the SH-5 there (which seems sort of similar to the breed)...

I definitely don't agree with this. Maybe on paper there are similarities, but the Breed doesn't "fart out" on the high notes like I've found the Custom to do. That was my experience anyhow. The Custom sounds good, but the high end doesn't do it for me. The Breed has grit in the low end with full mids and a fuller top end.

I tried both in my Rampage and the Breed isn't going anywhere. Every now and again I'm tempted to throw a double-cream JB I have in there, until I play it again, then I don't want to mess with it.

Sorry to go off topic a little, but I would try a try a pickup swap in the Yamaha before deciding.

I think the Yamaha is gorgeous...just wanted to say that... and a chopper neck and breed bridge might do wonders for that guitar and you bonding with the sound... just saying... it NEEDS to shred...

+1

Good frickin' eye, Funkfingers! I didn't notice that originally. If you scroll up and down on the 2nd picture above you can see there's something wrong with that neck. Then look to the 1st picture and it really looks like the neck tapers in the middle. I've never seen that.

It's obviously been played, and the OP has played it himself, so maybe it's a non-issue in person, but it definitely looks wrong on those pictures.

Huh, that's weird I did noticed the fact that low E seemed slightly off in the pic but I guessed it was just an effect due to angle the snap was taken from, however...

This I had not noticed, pretty damn strange and quite a put off, I'll still give it another try but the more I think about the more I think the Yamaha is just way better.

In the OP's position, I would sell the Yamaha for cash and put that money towards the guitar that he REALLY wants. i.e. Ibanez JEM.

While I love JEM's keep in mind that when I compare the two I intend to do so from an engineering/industrial design standpoint (neck joint, material, floyd rose bridge, ergonomics and players who they're aimed at), I still think they're sort of on par on quality except for cosmetics and pickups (not into evos though), but take this in the good way, as in "sometimes this guitar makes me feel a JEM's is just not worth the price tag). Keep in mind I'm not entirely happy with the sound of the Yamaha but tha can be easily fixed with a pickup swap, but thats a whole different problem cause I still don't know if I would like go for a vintage strat style H-S-S setup or a more modern-gainy-vai-satch vibe (alas more output making use of the SH-5 that's in there).

I'm heavily leaning towards the Yamaha, the more I think about the more I think that there is something special about that guitar :-) Besides I've always thought strats are meant to be cheap, they use blah woods, they have way too much plastic on them and quite frankly without the kluson (I think?) countoured vintage-type tuner they seem incomplete to me, like the whole design falls apart.

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

kinda looks like its been propped up in a corner for a very long time
maybe mildew at the frets?

just guessing

but where the low e drops off the fretboard
the high e is inset

funk is the man

Raul forget the Swap. I did not notice that neck. It does not seem right to me it may be the angle of the photo, but that does not seem so.

I didn't look that close at first but, I must concur that neck looks to have some sort of jacked up taper going there. That could be potential trouble I'm thinking.

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

Keep the Yamaha. That could be a badly assembled partscaster.

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

I think it's legit, just really screwed up :-S too bad for him!

Re: What do you think about this trade? (Guitar porn included)

If your going to base your decision on which guitar is worth more, remember the strat is not original , the lance sensor p/u's are gone .
I personally would do my homework on this one. It could be a marriage of body and neck. I would make sure you have strat plus electronics under the hood.
