What do you think of these speaker combinations in cabs?

Okay i was thinking just before that it would be cool to get a true stereo cab and put one type of speaker on the two left spots, and another type on the two right. Like for example two vintage30s on the left, and two greenbacks on the right. Then you would always have the option of two separate speaker cabs if you wanted, three actually...just greenbacks, just v30's, or a mix. But what combinations would sound good?

Im thinking actually for a future cab for my komet, but was also slightly considering it for the ENGL maybe.

Does anyone think another type of speaker would be good in the ENGL cab to run with its current vintage 30's and Savage 120 head?

And for another cab to run for more bluesy, jazzy, funky, and classic rock stuff what do people think would be a great combo? I was thinking two g12h30's and two greenbacks, or perhaps some alnico speakers in there.

What do you think?

I dunno about speaker combo's, but you just gave me a great idea!

Have 2 V30's on top, and 2 Greenbacks on bottom, but have 5 input jacks; One for the V30's alone, one for Greenback's alone, one for the left side vertical, one for the right side vertical, and one for all of em! That'd have a ton of versatility!

I think you should try moving them all around, different cabs are going to react differently to speaker location, I've never tried spliting them up on one side or the other, it always seemed to make more sense to put them in diagonaly to get a better mix on the sound - but who knows, maybe going with one model on top and the other on the bottom will work also. That's the beauty of this music thing, you get to experiment with stuff to find what you like. I think your on the right track with the alnicos for the light rock/blues stuff - I love the way the alnico blues sound clean and mildly overdriven.

Deadskin, rather than 5 input jacks you can hook up a 5 way rotary switch that will get you what you want, you can get the rotary switches that have multiple switch layers (ganged) so you can do all kind of fancy combinations, even single speakers in each corner!

im a big fan of mixing speakers. a v30 and a g12h is a cool combo, as is a g12m and a g12h. i just heard a 4x12 with two g12m's and two alnico blues and my gosh it sounded amazing, but those blues are pricey!!

Re: What do you think of these speaker combinations in cabs?

I would put one of each in each cab.

Bogners uberschall cab has Celestion V30's and G12T75's

Re: What do you think of these speaker combinations in cabs?

I was wondering about this myself. I have a Peavey Classic 30 and I'm using a Celestion Greenback housed in a seperate cabinet I built to hold 2, 12" speakers. (I'm not using the stock Blue Marvel at all.) I'm using the Greenback as the main, but I have another jack in the cabinet for the extension speaker. Kind of a 2 in 1 deal. I really like the Greenback a lot and I was wondering if I should add another one or try something else in the same cabinet with the Greenback. Any suggestions?

I have a Vintage 30 and a Jensen c12 in an open back vox cab. It sounds very good for most musical styles, except for very highly distorted tones, where the Jensen gets a bit funky.

I have a 4x12 with a greenback, v30 and 2 Weber blue dogs. The blue dog and green back combo is pretty sweet indeed. They don't phase-cancel each other like some other speakers do.

Benjy I agree with you on the c12n. It's a great speaker but heavy distortion is not it's forte.

Hey Stevo, how do the Blue Dog and Greenback compliment each other when used together? Which Blue Dog do you recommend, the alnico or ceramic one? Also the 30 watt model I assume?
