what do you think of this bc rich?

Re: what do you think of this bc rich?

doesn't NJ = bad/crap? used to be that way. do they make halfway decent NJ's now?

NJ's are pretty good...mine was a mid 90's model & very well put together. I think you might be referring to the Bronze series. Some of those are a bit shoddy.

Re: what do you think of this bc rich?

I've always had a secret desire to get a Warlock or other ridiculous pointy guitar, then put a set of 59s in it and play in a jazz band.

The only thing stopping me is that I can't play jazz.

:D :D :D . . . same here with that matt black Mockingbird.

Give it gold TV Jones and play it in a band that does only Johnny Cash covers.

NJ was always the good import. Bronze, Rave, Rave II, Platinum, those were the crap series. However starting in 99 or 2000, almost every series started to be called NJ, except Bronze, and there were different levels of NJ. NJ, NJ Neck Thru and so on. So you do have to be careful what version NJ you buy if it's a recent model.

Re: what do you think of this bc rich?

I'd rock that thing if it didn't have all the pointy things on the body, and if it didn't have the rocky-kindofa-thing tailpiece with a handle, and if it wasn't black (well I guess black is ok), and if it didn't have the gawdy binding, and if it didn't have active pickups, and if the headstock wasn't so pointy (dangerous, you know), and if it didn't have the string lock at the nut, and if it wasn't made by BC Rich.

Other than that, I think it's pretty rockin'.

Well,...you did ask for my opinion!

Re: what do you think of this bc rich?

Yeah, everyone's got black on; talk about conformity and wearing uniforms.

A few years ago I went to a Metal festival with a plain white T-shirt, boots and jeans, and I'd had a buzz cut recently.

I spotted myself quickly on the Facebook event pictures a few weeks later, in a sea of black it wasn't difficult. "Oh, that's me".

Some people actually GAVE ME A WEIRD LOOK.
What's wrong with not dressing up with spikes and oversized leather boots like you're in a Rammstein video?
It's just a gig and you're not playing, just like me.

That's the last Metal festival I ever went to, too. The local scene is just copycats.

Re: what do you think of this bc rich?

Well, if you want dark and brooding, you got it. Go for it, man. I used to have a Warlock 7 and I'd have kept it if, once I realized 7s weren't for me, it magically had 6 strings and a thinner neck to go with them!

Re: what do you think of this bc rich?

Just a little bit hey :D

When was the last time you went to an all metal festival ?
What is the single most worn colour, by everyone attending ?

You chose a picture of Anthrax with Don Nelson in it?!

I dont see your point anyway, Dave Mustaine normally wears a white shirt when he plays. Looks daft.
He should wear a black one.

+1. Any music that's that into it's image is a turn off to me, whether it's teeny booper pop or metal heads. When individuality starts disappearing, it's a sign of that genre of music being too commercial and attracting people for questionable reasons ('Look at me, I'm just like everyone else! Saves me a lot of time picking out clothes.').

What do you wear to play or go to gigs? Your normal clothes right? Yet you think thats any different than people going to a metal gig wearing the clothes THEY normally wear? :ok:
Anyone that thinks they dont have an image is fooling themselves. If people really didnt care at all about their image no one would have a mirror, or an iron, or a hairbrush.
Besides - the main reason you wouldnt play a pointy guitar is because it doesnt suit your image! ;)

Heres a photo of Chuck Schuldiner of Death (who played a BC Rich) wearing a WHITE shirt, with cats on it. And a Blondie one.

As I say, maybe its different now to when I was a teenager 20 years ago, but I wouldnt class the majority of stuff you guys call "metal" as being that anyway.
People in all genres have stupid ideas of what they NEED to wear, I dont see metal as being any different to any other.

Re: what do you think of this bc rich?

The 80's and 90's import BC Rich's arent't that good.

The story of the company is Bernie Rico Sr. owned the company and made the high end U.S. made ones out of his garage, and expanded. In the mid 80's, he sold the company to Class Axe. Class Axe had the high end U.S. made line, which were neck thru, and they expanded into the bolt on market.

Class Axe then started an import line from Japan, the N.J. series, which stoof for Nagano, Japan. These were good imports, but not up to today's standards on imports, but still very good. Class Axe then started many other cheaper import lines. The cheap imports flooded the stores and devalued the brand. Eventually it destroyed the company, Class Axe closed up. Ed Roman bought up their entire closeout inventory of body blanks, necks, bodies. For many years he'd use a USA Made body blank to build a BC Rich for anyone that wanted it. Some accused him of building fakes, IMO he was just completing the guitars.

Bernie Rico Sr. then bought back the company and began building USA made guitars with his son Bernie Rico Jr. These were exclusively USA made. At some point Sr went into partnership with Hanser, a company that began building the import line. At some point Sr died, Jr left to start his own company Rico guitars. and Hanser continued to build USA and Import BC Rich's.

The import line made by Hanser is superior to the import line under Class Axe. I've played both. As with anything, you get what you pay for, but the figh end recent imports are excellent guitars, even ones I've seen for $400 were excellent- neck thru, ebony fingerboards, etc..

Just watch the movie "HEADBANGERS JOURNEY" (not a bad movie).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal:_A_Headbanger's_Journey

During this documentary Sam Dun goes to a massive Metal Festival, to show the viewers the atmosphere at such a three day event.
Do you know what colour every one's garments was ?

. . . not from the movie/documentary :

Every kid and his dog is wearing black.

For someone who's into metal, it just a little bit strange that you do not know that everyone going to these festivals is draped in black !
