What EVH guitar is this?

I found this article: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/eddie-van-halens-stage-played-5150-guitar-for-auction-174815/#null And I was wondering what EvH guitar it shows? I first though Frankenstrat but it's not quite it. then I looked up Eddied Van Halen 5151 and it didn't come up the same. I'm asking this because, My father customized a guitar to be identical to the one in the photo in 2008/2009 (Unfortunately I wasn't into guitars then so I didn't pay any attention) for one of his friends/customers that was like insanely into guitars. and by that I mean he had Multiple guitars signed by bands like Aerosmith and such. He couldn't get his hands on an EvH Guitar that looked like that one for some reason... Does anyone know what it is? I has like electrical tape almost as the black lines..

Thanks for any info!! Unfortunately my father is no longer in contact with the owner of the guitar.

Edit: I know this isn't an EvH Guitar but instead of posting another thread, I'll post it here.

Alright, I recently saw a Fender Jazzmaster that looked like this one http://www.fender.com/guitars/jazzmaster/american-vintage-65-jazzmaster/0112200800.html Except it looked like it didn't have a finish on it and it truly looked really old. Like the pickguard was almost peeling up, there were some scrapes on it, some of it looked almost fading. It just looked like it was old, not just "Relic'd". It's not for sale, I was just wondering what it was! Thanks!

It looks like its just a backup guitar he had for the 5150. Its not the actual 5150, but like I said, more than likely it was used as a backup

Re: What EVH guitar is this?

Eddie not only had backups, he had guitars made that he would give away to close friends. Judging by the fact there's little wear on it, it looks like one of his gift guitars

As far as the Jazzmaster, lots of guys in the 70's got JM's (which were REALLY out of style, and therefore cheap) and stripped the finish off of them. One of my guitar teachers when I was just starting out had one, he had ditched the original guardplate and made a new one with a pair of DiM SD's. I've wanted one like that ever since, but just can't afford one.

I wonder if every time Ed gets a blank strat he goes....."Crap I have to stripe another one" haha wonder if he ever gets tired of painting, striping, and painting again?

He did that series with EVH for a while where he striped them, stage played them, then auctioned them. Even did shoes that came with them! Remember that? I think he was having fun with it. It's his trademark. I think he laughed to the bank with it.

lol ya i remember those. I think those were the Charvel/EVH Art Series guitars. I see them pop up on eBay every once and a while for $12k and up

Re: What EVH guitar is this?

There was a Wolfgang on eBay once that was from they first came out through EVH/Fender. The guy wanted like $8k or $10k for it. It was signed by Ed as part of some special guitar center event......but other than the signature, it was a completely 100% stock eh wolfgang that you can buy off the shelf. Now I understand its signed by the man, but if the guitar retails for about $3k, then that means that the guy wants like $5k - $7k for just the signature......I think thats crazy
