what for neck pickup?

im considering changing my 59n in my les paul to something else. I really like it for clean stuff, jazzy stuff and blues. but for my rock stuff, it's kinda lacking. that's probably due to there not being alot of midrange in it. i want the sound to still sound nice clean, kinda how satriani describes it "tubular" sounding under distortion, but a less bassy tone. which is why i had been considering the PAF pro, but im not 100% sure how it'd sound in a les paul. there are also other pickups like the pearly gates i had been considering, even teh air norton(but im sure on the clean tones for the air norton)

what does it sound like im looking for?

Re: what for neck pickup?

What about a A2 pro? More mids. Great under high gain
The PAF pro would sound good too, it is pretty 3D to my ears. People on here rave about the PG neck. They will chime in.

Re: what for neck pickup?

PGn is what you're looking for. I like it better than the APH under gain. The APH is cool, but the mids aren't as upfront. It's a bit too sweet IMHO.

Re: what for neck pickup?

Look also into a DiMarzio VVPaf neck, great chime, my fave pup for jazz and its phat when it come to rock stuff. Its not a nasty growl like a overwound Paf, it more the Santana and Gary Moore stuff!

Re: what for neck pickup?

Put a Jazz Bridge Model in there. You can thank me later.:)
