what gauge is your high e string?

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

This should have been in the form of a poll, so we could get a better idea of how many like the various gauges. Choices like: 8, 8 and 9, 9, 9 and 10, 10, 10 and 11, 11, 11 and 12, etc. It'd be interesting.

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

I use flatwound 12's on my ES-135, regular 9's on my 137 and SG (though I've been considering moving up to 10's again on the 137)

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

Extra slinky 8's on my melodymakers (yes, either the RPS slinky or titanium slinky ONLY)
Super Slinky/Hybrid slinky 9's on my #1 modded melody maker
Power Slinky 11's on my SG (with the stop bar raised to relieve some tension)
Beefy Slinky 11's on my Les Paul (again, stop bar raised just enough)

Thats my preferences- I'm picky.

But, I will always fall back on pure nickel Regular Rock and Roll Slinky 10's

When Im in a no-nonsense mood, theres always a back up set of 10's in my gig bag.

8's?? Holy crap.. those things have got to flop around like crazy.

What's your low-E in that set - a 38?

It's supposed to be a 38 according to most manufacturers.

I just put a set of 10s on my strat last night for a gig I have tonight. I don't know if it's me being used to playing with heavy strings, but it didnt seem all that hard to play, it was pretty slinky.

Les paul is Daddio's 10's

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

This reminded me, I was discussing string guage with a dude that plays tech metal (better player than me), and he told me he uses 10-48 pure nickels or something... for dropped B. That's gotta be comparable to the 8-38 thing, haha.

makes legato stuff a lot easier, that's for sure.

still, his strings must sound like loose elastic bands.

yech.

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

you just need a really light touch if you use light strings. if you pound on em, they will wobble all over the place but if you are dainty then they will behave

billy gibbons plays with 8's and his guitars still sound huge. im sure they would sound much better with 11's though

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

Hey AstroZombie good thread, it would have been better with a poll too.

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

I like using 11's on both my Les Paul and Strat.
I've been using this gauge for so long, 9's and 10's seem uncomfortable to me.
