Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

I've experimented with string gauges quite a bit and I always end up going back to .010's. However, I haven't settled on a particular brand.

Standard tuning I like dadarrio or ernie ball 10s, but I use a 48 for the E. On my ax that I tune down to D I use daddarrio 10.5s but I use a 54 for the D. For my 7 string I use 10s with a 60 for the low B.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

I use 100s.

On my bass. :chairfall

10-52s for my strats, 10-60s (or is it 11-60s?) on the Jackson.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

depending on the guitar i use either 11-50 dr pure blues or tite fits or a custom dr set of 11/14/18/32/44/56 for my guitar tuned down a whole step i run 12/15/22/34/46/60

DR Tite Fit 12-52 in standard

You two are BEASTS! :D

Granted, the Pure Blues are quite a bit slinkier than the Tite Fits, but a 60mm low D string is insane. You've both got stronger mits than I, I must admit.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

DR Pure Blues 11-50 in standard. I've tried just about everything out there and nothing has the full, smooth tone of these strings. I'm thinking about replacing the .50 with a .56 or .60 on my drop-D guitar tho.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

In 010s I use DR Pure Blues,GHS Nickel Rockers,D'Addario EXL .010s,and Pyramid Vintage Nickel strings...What strings I use depends on the guitar...

i used to use 13-56 on my standard tuned guitars but i hurt my wrist in a bike accident and lost some strength in my hands, couldnt bend the 13's the way i wanted any more so i moved down.

i think bigger strings sound better. i can play a set of 10's ok but i cant even play 9's, the lack of tension messes me up.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

11 thru 49 XL115's D'Adarrio on all electrics

13 thru 56 J17's D'Adarrio on all acoustics

Definately Jeremy, bigger strings equals bigger tone!

I totally agree, this is probably why I don't like the fenders that I try in stores, 9's sound so thin and with very little effort you can bend the string right across the fretboard.

I use Power Slinkys (.11-.48) on my Ibanez (25.5" scale) and currently Regular Slinkys (.10-.46) on my SG (24.75"). I actually like having the range between the two guitars, they give significantly different sounds and feels which is always nice for a change, heavier strings on a longer scale just sounds tight and fat while the lighter strings on a shorter scale has more bite to the top end.

Will you use a steel cable when 13s aren't heavy enough?

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

I currently have 10-46 Rotosounds or Dean markleys on my electric guitars, but I am considering trying 11-52 on my Gibby and Gordon Smith LPs :)

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

I fell in love with the Elixir Nanoweb 12-52 set for standard tuning and D. On my seven string i add a 68 for the low B(going from b standard down to Bb or A sometimes). For six string tuned to C i use the same gauge as for the low 6 on my seven. And I#m still working on finding the perfect gauge for c#

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

.009-.040. Yes, thin, but they are pure nickel (Fender 150s), which fattens it up a whole deal without getting the reduced playability and boomyness associated with thick strings.
