Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

10-46 here. i always tune 1/2 step down and this size seems to work perfectly for that. if i tuned standard i'd go for 9-42 but 42s dont seem to have enough girth. plus tuning down makes it seem heavier

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

I use Ernie Ball Power Slinky, .011-.048 on all of my guitars right now,

That's what I do. I tried heavier gauge for a wee while. The sound was more substantial. But after one session with my friend bassist it got so painful, I refused to play certain song, and had issue banding notes near the note.

So I came back to Power slinkies... I might be loosing out on the sound but at least it feels good to play.

When I finally get hold of a tele, I'll try to play it with .009fora while to start with... see how it goes?

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

9-46 are my choice.

The 3 high strings are great, as bending etc. aint a problem, while the three low strings are just a tad fatter sounding than 9-42s.

I am looking for a 7-36 set like KK Downing uses, just to try it. 3 step bends would finally be a possibility. :D

9s on a Tele would have no balls, especially if it's got a maple fretboard Tele. Those things are B-R-I-G-H-T. I played a USA-made "Texas Tele" awhile back with Fender Bullet 9s and it was earsplittingly bright.

With 11s (or at least 10s) it probably would be more bearable. A rosewood 'board would also help I'd be willing to bet.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

DR LH 9-46. Recently switched to Pure Blues. Probably will stick with them.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

I've been using Snake Oil Original nickel 9-46's but just put in an order last week to try the 9.5-44's. I sometimes feel the fatter wound strings overpower the treble strings so thought I'd try this hybrid set to even things out.

Wrong. Roll down the tone if you're having a problem, but it's not "earsplittingly bright." I've never noticed thinner strings having that big of an effect on tone.

Hm... what is this "tone control" you speak of?

Still, ash/maple Teles are too bright for me.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

lol I say the more treble the better.

Not really, but I don't think guitars on their own necessarily get too bright. If I got another Tele, I'd put TV Jones in, those are just about the brightest pickups available. The amp controls all of that, in my opinion.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

I'm currently using 10-52, but I'm looking to refine my picking, so I'm gonna go to a lighter gauge. That way, I'll have no choice but to lighten up.

I'll probably drop down to 9-42 or 9-46.

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

10-46.

Use to use 9s, until I couldn't stand how loose they were. 10s are nice sound with good tension and feel, and the .46 low E give some thick bottom on my Tele!!

Re: What gauge string do you use normally?

i use .012-.060 one step down in D and dropC
for normal tuning i use instead .010-.052
