Re: What gauge string do you use normally?
nah, dr will make custom sets for ya
Will you use a steel cable when 13s aren't heavy enough?

I use Ernie Ball Power Slinky, .011-.048 on all of my guitars right now,
9s on a Tele would have no balls, especially if it's got a maple fretboard Tele. Those things are B-R-I-G-H-T. I played a USA-made "Texas Tele" awhile back with Fender Bullet 9s and it was earsplittingly bright. That's what I do. I tried heavier gauge for a wee while. The sound was more substantial. But after one session with my friend bassist it got so painful, I refused to play certain song, and had issue banding notes near the note.
So I came back to Power slinkies... I might be losing out on the sound but at least it feels good to play.
When I finally get hold of a Tele, I'll try to play it with .009 for a while to start with... see how it goes?

Hm... what is this "tone control" you speak of?Wrong. Roll own the tone if you're having a problem, but it's not "earsplittingly bright." I've never noticed thinner strings having that big of an effect on tone.
D'Addario: light top, heavy bottom .10-.52 Allows for heavy, chunky rhythm and easy soloing.
