What gear do you like but others hate?

Re: What gear do you like but others hate?

The Behringer Ultratwin I have seems to be a decent solid state amp hooked up to a decent rack mount multi effect unit running out of a killer set of speakers mounted in a serviceable open back cab. All for less than two bills used. Oh and it takes a midi control pedal so that you can change the effects in a live setting.

I have my little DigiTech RP50 guitar processor pedal haha. I like it, its simple and easy to use, nothing fancy to it. Its neat too because I can plug into my computer with it and record through programs like Audacity. It has a drum machine on it as well, so just a neat compact thing!

I love my Behringer PA/Keyboard amp. 40 watt, 1x10, 5 band EQ and reverb. It makes an excellent acoustic amp. I didn't buy is based on the price, I bought it because it did everything I needed. I don't know why Behringer gets the the bad rep. I see more people complaining about broken Marshalls than Behringers.

"EMG Select" pups

I LOVE them in my bass, they're clear and punchy. I can turn up the mud on the amp, but if I have really dark pups (my other bass) you can't add clear...
Also, in a P/J set you don't get the volume difference between the two like some pj sets. They're more balanced, or something...
For guitar, they're great with a SS amp for really clean rithym playing

Almost any other playing I like normal pups, but funk/ska rithym playing these are great. I hooked one of these "guitar" pups up in a hollow bass once, to see what that was like (it was a fake Beatle bass with narrow string spacing so it fit) and it was pretty good, other than my ghetto packing tape mounting job. I THINK they're too narrow for normal width basses, but narrow ones (Hofner/Dano/Fender Broncos) they'd work great.

Behringher is I believe, a German company that has it's stuff manufactured in China. Thus the hate. Sometimes quality control was lacking, but if you get one of the better put together products, then you do alright. My combo has a set of Jensen speakers that say " made in Italy" and they sound phenomenal. They really complement the onboard effects. Clear as day.

So you asked a biased question and got a biased answer? The better question would have been 'what speakers do you think are in there.' You basically asked how good the speakers sounded and told them it was a V30. I probably would have said the same unless I knew the amp going into it well enough.

Re: What gear do you like but others hate?

I often like widely hated mid-scooped speakers (in some applications).

A lot of guys don't understand the art of matching a scooped speaker with a middy amp or a middy speaker with a scooped amp etc. They do mids on toppa mids on toppa mids until it sounds like a kazoo.

I love G12T-75s and a lot of people can't get them out of their cabs fast enough.

"EMG Select" pups

I have humbucker set in my BC Rich Warlock that are surprisingly good. Very clean and "hi-fi" sounding. Great, if you're going into some kind of pedal, which is probably how most people would use a Warlock.

My list:

Peavey guitars. (Love the old USA models.)
Everly strings. (I haven't heard anyone "hate" them, but also, no one but me seems to talk about them.)
