what guitar polish do you use?

Re: what guitar polish do you use?

I've tried both the virtuoso cleaner and polish... along with many others.

By far the virtuoso has worked the best to get gunk off of the guitar... but for some reason I am left with a milkish haze on some areas of my ebony LP. It's more than likely my application-buffing technique.

I use this......I bought it for my Harley. It works wonders on the axes. It's either in the garage or the guitar room, never where I need it.

I'm using Gibson guitar polish on all my guitars with a nitro finish. The gibson polish feels like it has a wax in it, which, I think, helps protect the finish.

On all my other non-nitro (poly) finishes I use Fender polish, Dunlop 65, or whatever is on sale when I need it.

I've got martin guitar polish that I use occasionally. Lately I've been lazy, so I've been using the old-fashioned polish known as sweat. The haze on my LP is never coming off.

:werd:

I've thought about it, and the ones that naturally get distressed look WAY better to me...it's for playing after all, and not looking at.
IMO, My .02$, YMMV, blahblahblah.

I keep my guitar groupie-fluid free with a clean rag and Dunlop 65 guitar polish.

Re: what guitar polish do you use?

for cleaning, use standard Ronco lighter fluid (like for a Zippo lighter). It's recommended by Don Erlewine of Stewmac. Works great.

I bought a couple different polishes I haven't tried out yet. One is a Gibson. Forget the other.

Trust me, lighter fluid kicks butt on grime.

Martin. If it's good enough for C.F. it's good enough for me.
I cut up old cotton T shirts or underwear to use as polish cloths.

I've tried a couple other brands and the sprayer always goes bad.

i've got dunlop 65, makes my guitars look awesome when i actually use it. its just a ***** to apply it properly and it can leave things feeling a little greasy...

Believe it or not, saliva is a great grime cutter. Think about it before you get grossed out...it's got enzymes in it who's sole purpose in existing is to break down protiens, and friends and neighbors, the grime on your guitar is mostly protien...even the smoke from the cigarettes in the bar. Try it, and then buff the guitar with your very most soft and comfortable T-shirt. Polishes are a waste of $, to me.

Re: what guitar polish do you use?

I have allways used a pure Carnauba car wax on my guitars. The best I have found is a product I picked up at the Birmingham World of Wheels a few years ago called "Beats Um All". Many of the guys at the show were using this stuff on their 20K custom paint jobs on the show cars so--. This stuff is incredable and will cut a lot of grime without scratching the finish. It's easy to use and leaves an unbelievable shine I also use it on my Tung Oil finshed necks!! It comes from a company called J&D Chemical in Oak Ridge Tn no website but a toll free # 1-800-535-3682. No joke guys this stuff is AMAZING and will blow any of the regular guitar polishes out of the water :notworthy !!!
