What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

Wasn't the Eminence Red Fang their answer to the Celestion Blue? (With a bit more power.)
Regardless of whether or not that's true, wasn't it a very popular speaker?

In either case, it doesn't seem to be available anymore. And, it seems to have been replaced by the Eminence RF10C. Which they refer to as "A (10") ceramic version of our popular Red Fang alnico."

Just seems odd. As I said, wasn't the Red Fang a popular speaker?

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

And if you do a "Google" search, you'll see a lot of retailers show it, then say, "not available anymore", or "discontinued". :dunno:

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

I’d noticed that. I have both 10” and 12” Red Fang speakers - 10 in an extension cab, and 12 in a combo - great speakers, higher power than Blues, but very similar tonality.

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

So, would you call the Red Fang, the "Blue" equivalent?

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

I had blues in my Vox AC30CC2X and, when I downsized from that to (first) a Mesa TransAtlantic 15 I chose the Red Fang to replace their stock V30. It’s very close to the blues, though to my ears, it has slightly more bass - mainly from its efficiency being higher, I think. It does the chime thing very nicely.

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

I daresay there isn't a single retail eminence guitar speaker product that qualifies for the adjective "popular"

They're probably doing a brisk trade in supplying unbranded or subtly branded stock OEM speakers for a few mass market amplifier companies, since they seem to somehow stay afloat... but the truth is, despite a bunch of interesting innovations like all the neos, people just don't know about them, or have no idea what they sound like and just know them as "that other speaker company".

Their marketing as an aftermarket alternative to Celestion is, alas, total fail.

I'm not sure I'd agree with "total fail". I realize that our forum doesn't really represent the general public, but I see a lot of people talking about, and using them, quite a bit. On the other hand, as much as I like them, all my speakers are either OEM or Celestion.

They are definitely popular here. More of them in classifieds than Celestions in fact.

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

i see lots of eminence speakers in use these days, seems to me they are pretty popular? i have a red fang and i dont think it sounds much like a blue, more muscular in the mids, great speaker though

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

have begun using Eminence in my builds that benefit from high sensitivity...that seems to be where Eminence shines....even there AlNiCo models have 100+ sensitivity ratings...but when I want a real classic sound it's Ted Weber every time...

That could be interpreted as not a very good endorsement. As in, they're keeping their Celestions and blowing out the Eminence. :D

I've heard only good thing about Weber's. I might need to try one.

Maybe. Just tought they seem to sell well new. I don't know about their quality as V128 is the only one I've tried...

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

I have a 12" Red Fang. Agree with Jeremy, it's a bit different than a Blue. I thought they were pretty popular. Oh well.

Well i actually GAS for speakers, swap speakers, build cabs, etc. I live in socal, greater freakin los angeles.... and ive wonderded about em for years

Except there aint nowhere to see em. Havent seen any in like a decade. Except that one lowend model, whats its name, Legends?

So I own a bunch of celestions (that I like). And don't own a bunch of other Celestions that i dont much like or even outright hate. But ive never owned a eminence.

Maybe Im missing out? Quite possible, but I have no way of knowing.... = marketing fail

Re: What happened to the Eminence Red Fang?

PS oh and i once had a customer who slipped the hook for a custom cab.

He wanted lightweight. He seemed to NEED eminence neo, had some disability or injury or something. I suggested it... but he bailed. Why? "Not sure about dropping good money on speakers no one seems to have seen or heard".

I'd say most non-tinkerers out there only really know about Celestion. Think how many times you hear about a cab being advertised as coming loaded with Celestions? Most other speaker companies don't come OEM in the types of cabs you would find at the local Guitar Center.

I once had a fellow tell me he didn't need new pickups (the ones he had were microphone to the point you could talk into them) because they are "all the same except for the advertising".
