What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

Ummm, for posing?

J/k. :)

I still want a CU22 with a trem in violin burst.

I think that they're good at being PRS'. If you run a lot of gain or want a very articulate, yet thick tone, it's what I'd use.

that, ot my Hamer. :burnout:

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

I dunno, they're pretty good at giving me severe cases of GAS.

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

you must be in an argumentive mood today, between dissing Gibson and PRS, but I won't bite on this one, however I'd don't think you should be bashing brand names just for the sake of it. lot's of folks would rather have a Gibson or PRS than an Ibanez- myself included, as I own both.
just my .02

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

They look all the same. If they were hand made and used better parts I'd buy them

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

If they were hand made and used better parts, they'd all probably be over $4,000. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't PRS's US guitars hand made? Or are they "hand made" as in hand guided machines?

I would love to own a PRS... they're awesome looking guitars and apparently they play, sound, and feel really nice.

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

Please folks...lets keep all the positive comments out of my threads!

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

US PRS guitars (the non-Private Stock models) are carved out usnign CNC machinery

Beer$, have you ever picked up a well set up PRS?

Only the private stock,

Which is only SEMI hand made

PRS had no problem proudly admitting they were 100% MACHINE MADE years ago.

That's why they won't use ebony fretboards, the fretting machine splits the wood

What are you talking about?

The Private Stocks have all the finishing and final carving done by hand.

About the ebony fingerboards, Carvin has no problems machining their fingerboards. I doubt that they use super secret magic machines to do their fretting. :27:

HEY!!

What about me?! (NO NOT THE SHANNON NOLL SONG)

The board can be priofiled by machine, but ebony boards are almost universally fretted by hand because of the wood´s inherent brittleness. The only manufacturer I know of that actually machine presses frets into an ebony board is Jackson/Charvel, and their machine "chatters" the frets in in a way I´ve never seen elsewhere and that´s a bit hard to describe.... ;)

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

My point is that there are standard production guitars out there with ebony boards. I doubt that PRS would bail on ebony simply because they figured "it's too hard for us to do".

At no point did I say PRS were bad guitars. I love playing them in shops and think they are great to play.

But they are so damn expensive.

Other guy, the carving on the private stock done by hand is what I meant by SEMI hand made
