. . . Les Paul Custom (Wine Red) in a +/- "9" cond. worth these days ?

I found one at a used store but want to know what you guys think a guitar like that go for. i.e. a non-ripp-off price.

Thanx
;)

Re: What is a 1977 Gibson . . .

I see 70's LP Customs priced from $2500 to $4000. A few have popped up on CL in the $2k range.

$2400-$2700.

It is highly dependent on what state it is in. Also whether it has the original pickups. Fret binding still there etc.

1977-1979 is the "worst" years when it comes to weird construction.

Re: What is a 1977 Gibson . . .

If that is the case, man, they have gone up, just in a few years. I remember the shop I worked in in 2004 had a consignment guitar in. It was a wine red Custom, mid '70's, in nice shape, 100% original. We were asking $1,400 for it, because that is what E-Bay complete auctions seemed to suggest...and the owner was happy with getting 80 percent of that. I really wanted to get it myself because it was so nice. It sat there for at least a year. We ended up selling it on E-Bay for $1,250 plus shipping. We didn't make much money on the deal. The owner was happy with finally getting his 80 percent of $1,400.

Could run anywhere from 1800 to 4k. As mentioned, condition, condition, condition.

Other factors - may or may NOT be pancake, hardware may be gold or chrome, type of top - probably 3 piece, but again, could vary.

2500 is not an unreasonable average.

Re: What is a 1977 Gibson . . .

Vintage buyer's guide says $2,000-$2700. I'd say its closer to $2200-$2400 myself, and it would have to be pretty some pretty fantastic looking wood to hit the $2400 IMO.

Although the book says the same price for 2 or 3 pickup models as well as rosewood or maple boards, I know that 2 pickups sell better, and maples boards sell for a bunch more $$ in real life.

Re: What is a 1977 Gibson . . .

mid 2k range is typical...sure I see them priced at 3 and even 4k but at those prices they are sitting...even at $2500 they sit a bit.

The thing is this, for $2500 and less you can get into a smokin Historic or VOS LP of some kind and more than likely get a MUCH better guitar...

By the late 70's Norlin had really done a number on most Gibsons and in my experience LP Customs got it worse than anything...

Don't know about the 70's, but my '81 LPC is one of the best LP's I've owned, including Historics, and that says a lot. Granted the $500 Michael Tuttle stainless jumbo refret contributes to that.

I picked it up for $2,000 shipped (with the refret already done). The ebony fretboard still looks new.

Re: What is a 1977 Gibson . . .

3 piece maple necks OWN on an LP. Closer to a 59 than 60's thin, just right...ahhhh.

So....

pics?

I might be interested, looking for vintagy things.

Re: What is a 1977 Gibson . . .

76 was a transition year, and 82 was the other end of the transition.

Roughly between 76 and 82 Les Pauls had a solid body and 3 piece maple neck.

T-tops until 80, the Shaws after.

Zakk and John Sykes love these, and so do I.

I specifically wanted a maple neck LP when I went after my 1977.

Re: What is a 1977 Gibson . . .

Looks like a mahogany neck.

Huh? I see only a few inches of neck in just one those three pictures, and it is impossible to tell what it is from the picture because it is so far away and there is so much glare. But a '77 should have three pieces of maple. What makes you say it looks like a mahogany neck? Is there a picture I missed?
