In my experiences, definitely both. The EQ is more even, there's more clarity, more output, and more tightness and aggression.

So in other words, like a Custom Custom only better, huh? How does it sound in split mode compared to the CC, and does it clean up with the volume knob as well? :wave:

No, not really like a CC. It's more even, brighter, tighter, and more aggressive. The CC has tons of loose mids, very round treble, and comparatively little bass that comes through. The C5 has a lot of treble and bass, but relatively few mids. But the C8 has a much more balanced EQ, with more output than either.
It sounds good split, but I only tried splitting it once. Compared to the JB split, I think it sounds more even. I can't compare it to the CC for this, because I never tried it split. And it cleans up fine with the volume knob, and it has good clean tone for a high output pickup.
I would say that the C8 is closest to a deeper, more balanced, tighter, higher output, and slightly smoother JB.

So to make this custom 8 everone is talking about,which pickup do you start out with ? A CC,59,or C5 and then put a Alnico 8 magnet in it ? The reason i ask is because i think the wire used in a CC is a different gauge than the wire used in a 59 pickup from SD.

You would need to start out with one of the Custom pickups (Custom, CC, or C5), and then put an alnico 8 magnet in it. All of the Custom pickups are the same wind, but just with different magnets.

To each there own bro. I have both and MUCH prefer the tones on the Custom 8. To me the Custom 8 is clearer, less compressed and MUCH MUCH more articulate. Both are cool and I'm keeping the JB 8 right where it is but if I had to choose just one it would be the Custom 8.

You are describing the Custom 8 to a T bro! Tighter, brighter, more agressive but with the smooth singing solo tones and buttery mids of the CC is dead on a discription for a C-8.
I have one in a pair of my MG's and on one I have it matched with a SSL-1 in the middle and set up to auto tap in pos 2 on the 5 way. The tones tapped with the SSL-1 are killing!!

Thanks. Then that is what it shall be in one of the ones I'm swapping. I still am going to try the Alternative 8 in an Ash single hum/Floyded Strat I own, but for the counterpart to the H/S Floyded Strat I just slapped a TB-11/STK-S1N combo in, definitely thinking Custom 8/STK-S1N...

Yeah, Ill have the trifecta!! I have a Custom 8 in a Kramer, a Crazy 8 in a Charvel 4 and will put the Alt 8 in my other Charvel 4. So they are all similar built axes, I should be able to get an accurate comparo!! CANT WAIT!!
Im thinking about another C8 for my Washburn Salas.. How you think that'll work Ascension?? If the Alt 8 is slammin, Ill try that one. my plan is to keep one salas stock and the other c8 or alt8
