What is a "Super-Switch"?

I've read about a kind of 5-way switch called a Super Switch, but I can't find anything that clearly explains what it exactly does. Can someone please help me out?

Re: What is a "Super-Switch"?

The Superswitch is simply a 5-way switch with 4 poles (as opposed to the 2 poles the normal CRL switches have).

There is also a "megaswitch" 5-way switch which has a little prewired board attached to it where you just connect humbuckers and single coils according to the included schematics and you get all that auto-switch and phase stuff without having to design (or wire) complicated schematics.

Re: What is a "Super-Switch"?

Can you please translate this for idiots like me?

Ok, this is with a Super 5 way E switch with the Distortion Mayhem set and a push pull tone. These are the 6 different sounds I get out of my 750XL:

1. Neck HB
2. Neck Single (split)
3. Neck single + Bridge single = HB. Pull the tone pot for out-of-phase tone.
4. Bridge single
5. Bridge HB

Just follow the directions and wire it up.

Fender also offers S-1 switching on some of their new models. This diagram explains the 10 different options available on an HSS Strat with an S-1 switch.

Re: What is a "Super-Switch"?

Let me preface this by saying that if you don't understand any of this post, you probably don't need a Superswitch. :)

The Superswitch is like having four 5-position switches in the same mechanism. It has 24 lugs in total. Imagine each of the numbers below is a lug on the switch:

A0 B0
A1 B1
A2 B2
A3 B3
A4 B4
A5 B5

C1 D1
C2 D2
C3 D3
C4 D4
C5 D5
C0 D0

When the switch is in the first position (neck), A0 connects to A1, B0 connects to B1, C0 connects to C1, and D0 connects to D1. Switch to the second position, and you now have A0 to A2, B0 to B2 ... etc.

Like I said: four five-way switches in one.

This enables you to do some really, really complex pickup switching. Here's an example of what I have wired up in my two humbucker Warmoth LP:

1: Neck humbucker in series
2: Neck screw coil and bridge slug coil in series
3: Neck slug coil and bridge screw coil in parallel
4: Bridge humbucker in parallel
5: Bridge humbucker in series

The Superswitch enabled me to switch each coil (four in total) in and out for each switch position. I could not have done this with a standard five-way switch.

As you can see in the link provided by Gamera, the S-1 switch is used to complement the superswitch.

The S-1 is actually simply a 4PDT switch.

Re: What is a "Super-Switch"?

Buying, wiring and using a superswitch convinced me that I don't need a superswitch.

lol

I did a two hum setup - neck, out coils, neck and bridge bucker, inner coils, bridge bucker. It was cool, but I don't need much more than neck and bridge alone.
