What is a Univibe pedal

Guys I read that a univibe pedal is just a phaser/phase shifter that has a

foot control and it gets the Leslie effect,

is it really just a phase shifter, chorus, vibrato,

I want to buy one..... but

could I get the univibe effect with just using phase shifter, chorus and vibrato pedals,

CAN YOU GET A CLOSE ENOUGH UNIVIBE STYLE SOUND WITH JUST THE COMMON EFFECTS IN A PEDAL BOARD, LIKE A PHASER, TREMOLO, VIBRATO, CHORUS, DELAY, REVERB PEDALS

any experience with these pedals,

thanks

Old school opto controlled phaser with a unique low fi sound.
Or, for some - the path to quasi mythical musical enlightenment.

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

Univibes are a great effect if you can find a good one. I had the Sweetsound MojoVibe (RIP Bob), but it didn't play nice with overdriven sounds. Then I got a KR Megavibe, and it plays nice with everything. Here's a clip I did with it and a KR Gypsy Fuzz, the intro to Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs," another classic example of Univibe goodness.

Bridge of Sighs

Cheers...................................... wahwah

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

Is the univibe effect just a beautiful combination of chorus, vibrato and phaser ?

I want to buy one.... but to anyone owning a univibe pedal,

can you get a univibe effect with just a chorus, vibrato and phaser pedal ?

thanks for the replies,

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

i wouldn't quite say it's a phaser-type effect, it's original purpose was to emulate a leslie speaker in a pedal, creating a chorus/volume shift similar to the way the leslie worked.
It's the best effect ever.
+1

thanks for the replies,

No, a Univibe is not a combination of chorus, vibrato and phaser...it is a phase shifter of sorts, there is a mode called chorus but it's not the time based chorus that you are thinking about like in a chorus pedal (Boss CE-1, Small Clone, etc).

No, you can not get a univibe sound from with a chorus, vibrato and phaser pedal...

If you want a Univibe get one, they are the only things that will get that sound.

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

It's a Univibe. To say it's a kind of chorus or phaser might be ok - but a phaser or chorus typically can't do a univibe sound. Find some clips to listen to online and you'll see/hear the difference.

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

I once modded an EH Small Stone Phaser to sound like a UniVibe. It came fairly close and does have a reasonably convincing Leslie-simulator sound.

Then I played a 1960's Shin-Ei Uni-Vibe and realised just how far off the clones were.

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

I have the Dunlop univibe with the expression footpedal, and it sounds pretty good. I've heard better, but it does work pretty well, and they're not that expensive used. New, together they're over $300, and for that much, you can just about go boutique and something you'd really love.

I've used a phase shifter in a pinch to get a similar swelling sound, but not anything close to what the leslie effect actually does.

I was just considering selling my univibe 'cause I haven't used it in a while, but they are always a fun effect to play.

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

Some phasers can do a pretty decent vibe sound honestly, like the PH350 for example. Its not quite the same as they dont get that same asymetrical "lumpyness" but it can work depending on how picky you are.

I'm a big lover of univibes so I've had basically everyone known to man. Favorites are the Mojovibe (lushest and thickest, great for cleans) and KR Megavibe (thinner but better with dirt as Geoff said)

the Voodoo Lab pedal isn't bad for 1/3rd the price though.

Since I've gone all software, I really like the vibe pedal in the Amplitube Hendrix software, quite authentic sounding with a really nice "throb"

In all honesty though, a vibe is a pretty limited effect, it does one thing and thats the univibe sound.

Hendrix and Trower more or less. Hard to use a vibe and not be reminded of Machine Gun or Bridge of Sighs

So its a great effect if you like playing those type of sounds but its not the most versatile pedal, nor one that would be great bang for the buck for $400+ which the good ones are going for these days.

As such, I think a majority of guitarist while liking the effect, don't feel its worth having on their boards.

Re: What is a Univibe pedal

My friend has a Univibe... He waited like 3 months to get it (backordered)...

When it finally came, he couldn't stop raving about it. He was totally in love with the thing.

He let me borrow it for a couple of weeks... It wasn't for me... I couldn't find a useful spot for it in my rig.
