What is it about DiMarzio's and Feedback?

Re: What is it about DiMarzio's and Feedback?

I had a Les Paul with an X2N.... I am surprised that pickup don't feedback when the guitar is unplugged :)

I've gotten feedback from my X2N when playing it boosted and through a Peavey XXX combo amp, cranked up to about 10:30.

I know Satch currently stuffs strips of foam down around the pup to quiet it. Paul Gilbert started doing the same after the G3 tour.

one thing that sticks out in my mind are the pictures of Steve Morse with what is basically bathtub caulk gooped into his neck pickup cavity, all around the pickup. I read in an interview that it was to stop feedback. That was the only thing they found that solved it. So for years, that blue Steve Morse model EB/MM that he played had a grey-colored goober around the neck pickup.

He actually did that to his #1 EBMM, the first of 50 models. He was in the studio trying to get controlled feedback and was having trouble with the little studio monitors. Here's the Youtube interview. Heck, I'll just post all three videos. It's Steve and Sterliong talking about how they came to design the Y2D model.

I get wonderful controlled feedback when I shove a SuperD in front of a loud amp speaker. :D
