I have tried an Invader and it seemed way to overkill for my taste. It seemed to be just a crank it up type of pickup and it didnt seem to have an overall good tone to it. The Invader was just way to bassy for my taste. I currently have a JB in the bridge of my Fender MIA Strat and feel its just not quite what im looking for. The JB seems to be to trebly and not bassy enough for my taste. I'm in search of a bridge pickup that I can use for Hard Rock type music. Im looking for a higher output humbucker that is pretty well balanced in all three categories of Bass, Mid, and Treble. Any suggestions? Be sure to Cast Your Vote! Any help that can be offered would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Just in case you need information about my guitar to decide, I have a 2004 Fender American Standard Strat, with an alder body, and a maple fretboard. :32:

I had to go with the custom out of this group. Personally I think it is more versatile and thus sounds better than the rest. We know what opinons are like though!!!!

Distortion or a Custom and you're there. I'd even suggest a JB ceramic, but in maple the high mids might be irritating.

Re: What is the BEST Bridge Pickup for a HardRock music style?

Distortion all the way. It is way more versatile than people think. You just have to use the volume and tone, you know those knobby looking things on the lower half of the guitar. What are those called? Knobs?

The duncan custom is great for hard rock stuff fairly even in the tonal spectrum, but if you want slightly more mids and crunch (trebles), the distortion also sounds great it has slightly more trebles than the custom listen to the tone samples. I think the JB would be to thin sounding in the bridge a strat, probably to bright

I like the DD for hard rock.

Re: What is the BEST Bridge Pickup for a HardRock music style?

you forgot to list the dimebucker! It's much more of a versatile pickup than most people seem to think... even sounds good clean! (unlike my distortion, which is a bit hotter to my ear)

I fell in love with the palm mute chunk. Searing highs. Might not quite be bassy enough for you though, so watch out.

I've decided on the Distortion for this purpose. The custom at times just seems to have some piercing highs that are too much for me. In the right guitar I'm sure it's great, but I want more thickness, and the DD seems to deliver.

Custom. 'Nuff said.

I vote for a Demon for myself thats in a mahogany SG. For your application I would say a Custom or Distortion.

Re: What is the BEST Bridge Pickup for a HardRock music style?

Dimarzio Breed is a real good alternative if you find the DD and/or the Custom too trebly.

Duncan Custom, very versatile with large Cajones and a set of combat boots ;)

and if you're not carefull, he and JB will take your girlfriend and do nasty things with her.. scary thing is.. she'll like it :saeek:

well, i find that the JB has enough bottom end.. but i dont think yoi're looking for the palm mutes, but more in the lines of a more full tone.. so custom gets my vote too

JB.

I have one in my Strat and it sounds top notch. When you install it, keep the 250k pots in your guitar.

Re: What is the BEST Bridge Pickup for a HardRock music style?

I haven't played all the pickups in that list but I voted for the Custom.

I've played a Custom, and Hard Rock is what it says to me. Balls aplenty. :approve:

Re: What is the BEST Bridge Pickup for a HardRock music style?

ANY pickup will work for hardrock with the right guitar/amp combination. I have gotten brutal hard rock tones with low ourput pickups. In fact, I much prefer low output pickups for everything from clean jazz to thrash. I let the amp handle the work load. I only wopuld choose a high output pickup for an amp that really needed that push.
