What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Been through everything you can name as I use Chorus on my cleans regularly.
Got spoiled by the chorus in Rocktron rack units I ran in the 1990's and now nothing sounds right to me but a Rocktron.
I own 3 Rocktron Deep Blues one for each of my 3 boards. Dirt cheap never had an issue with any of them even after years of use and they always sound great but looks like they are no longer made http://www.musicplayers.com/reviews/guitars/2006/1206_RocktronDeepBlue.php so---.

Zombie thread for sure, I was still in high school when this thread was started!

I like just a hint of Chorus and have found the MXR M234 Analog Chorus to be perfect for me. I traded an EHX Metal Muff for it and is has been one of the best trade deals I've done.

Edit: I take it this was posted before the pedals section?

Zombie thread!!

Although I can still say while I still like a CE2, I typically use my analog CH1 for everyday stuff. I owned a Boss DC2 for a while and the sound was fantastic, though the volume did drop a bit when you clicked it on. The bigger CE20 gets a lot of great sounds too.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Jeff Beck was found of this pedal in the mid 90's. Bought this because of him.

To add to the zombie, I always liked the Boss stereo chorus. Also, I have a Behringer combo with built-in effects that has a fantastic stereo chorus sound.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I bought an arion chorus pedal from one of my friends dads when I was in my early teens and have never felt the need to upgrade.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Funny thing is, I normally hate Chorus. That typical 80s fast rate chorus on top of a clean sound with tons of reverb, lush delay and compression... Haaaate it.
I'd much rather have a Vibe pedal or a Leslie simulator of some sort.

I use my CE2 in front of every pedal except the tuner. I like it before my distortion, never ever EVER in the FX loop. Slow rate always.
The swirl effect sounds deeper and thicker in the front. A bit more phaser-ish, maybe.

I like it as a "Is this thing on?" box. Barely noticeable but adding an edge, a texture to riffs and notes that makes them stand out, not warble.

^ That Ce-2 must be worth it's weight in gold over there!
IMO< in terms of the best technologically engineered and designed, and best built pedaL, my vote goes to the one I own, which is the Maxon Cs-9 Pro+. Its based on th old Ibby Cs-9 ( IIRC), and it sounds especially nice due in large part to its meticulous design, quality of craftsmanship, and also due to it's incorporating some old school components-in fact, the chips that are in the old Boss Ce-2) that are now out of production. It far surpasses the Ce-2 in design and build quality , with new advanced technology to reduce artifacts . Build and Design quality is superb, but it's an expensive pedal though.

I haven't seen one of these for years! Great pedal, this was the first pedal I ever spent more than $30 on. I think I was 15 years old when I bought it new? I can't remember what happened to it but I wish it was still around!!!

That's pretty much how I run mine, except for placement in the chain. I'll have to give it a try sometime and see if I like that approach better than what I'm doing now.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I've been using chorus for a 80's style d-beat Discharge/Doom (the band) thing. Def through the front.

Who am I kidding, I put everything through the front.

That's good. I've tried every stupid pedal placement just to see if something good comes out.

Fuzz pedals through the loop? Been there, done that. BTW, it sounds like ****.

Best...the original.

The current MXR micro is alot of bang for the buck. So is the malekko.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

a few years ago I was checking out a lot of different chorus pedals and settled on an original early-80s DOD FX60 chorus. it was dirt cheap & i love it.

i also have an 80s Ibanez cs-9 that is fantastic.

the correct answer is to buy an 80s chorus pedal that has only two knobs.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I have an Arion SCH-1 Stereo Chorus that I swear by. It was given to me by a friend who had no idea what kind of pedal it was. Even I didn't know what it was since it is missing the battery cover and a knob. Sounds absolute beast with everything, acoustic included. It really opens the sound wide the way I have it set.
