What is the BEST chorus pedal???

if you look at my signiture strip you see my effects are in a rp-7 floor unit. Thr digitech is ok but my old Boss gx-700 had much better sounding chorusing. Unfortunately it is shot, has been for a while. If some of you aren't familliar with the unit; it was a rackmount modeling processor. It was possible to pull some good sounds from it. It actually had better sounding distortion sound than you can get out of the digitech(which actually has a real tube in the preamp, which was changed after i bought it). I got a good deal on it used.

I have the boogie now and i use the digitech in the loop. Thing is i am not super thrilled with the chorusing in it. I was thinking I would get a good chorusing pedal and just use the digitech for delay in the other effects loop in my boogie. I like the boss chosus ensemble, but was wondering what others here might think as far as what is the best sounding chorus is. I have seen the Electro harmonix small clone and think that it could be sweet as well. :reporter: What do you think??? I would likely only use it for clean sounds. I used to like chorused distortion but i really don't anymore.

It depends on what you're tastes are in chorus.

The Boss CS-1 is brighter, and cuts through high gain better...though some feel it's too bright/sharp/brittle for cleans.

The Boss CE-2 and 3 are smoother, and sound better clean but don't cut as well with gain.

The Small Clone is ultra thick/lush, but is also very dark. The darkness muds up badly with gain, but that can also be cool if that's your thing.

The Boss CE-20 is very versitle....so if you need to have a thick clean, a bright lead, and everything in between then you might like this pedal.

Ibanez CS-9 very very good chorus
Ibanez RC-99 rotary chorus, great as well
CS-505..kinda hard to get but it is a great unit too.
Stick them before the od or distortion...after always sounds like jlsdfhbvwilutbyaybpigusgb in my ears;)

Boss OWNS chorusing.

The CE-1 is a classic.

The CE-2 sort of set the standard in the 80's, but is getting pricey.

Thje CE-3 sounds just as good in my opinion, but costs less then 1/2 what the -2 does.

The Dimension C is a different beast - absolutely great sound. Rare and expensive. I actually prefer the lo-fi wobble of the CE-2 and -3, so I cashed out of my Dimension C a year ago.

Start with a -3 'cuz it's cheap, then move on from there if necessary.

I like the Voodoo Labs Analog Chorus...though it has a slight volume boost when engaged. Digital Music (the manufacturer) will fix it free of charge and pretty quickly.

Analog Man's Clone Chorus is a great pedal as well.....but kinda pricey.

Pick your era. I'm liking the original Fulltone Dejavibe for 60's/early 70's. The Fulltone Choralflange is a pretty hifi kind of sounding chorus I would dub as very modern sounding. The Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus does a pretty nice CE-1 cop and works well for 80's style work.

All that said, if I needed 1 inexpensive pedal I would go with the Danolectro Cool Cat.

Hehe and then it will all end up sounding like the 80's, compressor with no bandwidth, a chorus and some tapped delays:D

The old Vibes where phasers, I like phasers and flangers more, more trippy than most chorus units will sound.
I still like the Ibanez and the old first compact boss the best.

Yamaha CH-10MII

I've been through almost every chrous pedal out there, and this one is my fav. They're MIJ in the 80's, and sound KILLER both clean and distorted. Also, you can get a cool vibe sound them as well by running a dummy load in to the stereo out jack.

I think I had one of those. It was given to me and I didn't use it much but it broke anyway.

I have an old Ibanez CS-9 that I really like.

Pick my era?? I think likely it would be 80s. I don't really like lo-fi for my clean guitar sounds. As for the tonality I'm looking for; I would say the more 3-D the better, but not so peircingly bright. Clean and clear but not harsh. I will be using this on a variety of guitars, and some are warm but since i have put dimarzio class of 55s in my strat it is a lot brighter than it was with the stock pups and i want something that won't sound like mudd on the guild and the hollow body and wont make the strat sound nuaseatingly bright. After hearing that eric johnson uses the tc electrnic pedal my interest has definatly been peaked. I will likely get a different set -up for delays but i will save that for another post if i am unsure. Kind of interested in the boss dimension-c that was mentioned. Is it preaty three dimensional sounding?
