what is the best metal pedal?

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

Metal Zone and an EQ, and learn to use the search function.

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

Twice I've heard you refer to the search function Jeff :p Don't worry - I'm not too patient either.

Perhaps it should be put somewhere clearly prior to entering a particular forum.

But most of us have no qualms about answering questions more than once. Again, tastes change and people become more experienced.

I would have to disagree partly with DSS. I have a Metal Zone and have tweaked it considerably. It tends to cut out a lot of the mid frequencies, and ends up kinda buzzy. BUT I haven't used it with an EQ but that would be a second pedal.

Paisting my answer from another similar thread:

The Best Metal distortion pedal i've tried was the Digitech Metal master and the Boss Digital Metalizer. Choose the Digitech if you want a more modern metal sound and also for heavier styles like Black metal, the first thing i did was to dial in the guitar tone from Burzum's album "Filosofem" :32:

The Metalizer is no longer availble new from Boss but to my ears it sounds better then the new Metal Zone, less controls but better sounding. More fat, low tones then the zone's weak bass and middy tone IMO

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

This will sound wierd....

Prolly 15 or 16 years ago I was goofing around and ran my Boss Heavy Metal pedal AND my Tube Screamer used as a Level boost (level up, gain backed off most of the way) into the Clean Channel of an old channel switching 800 series combo. Oh my!....what a wonderful modded for serious gain Marshall sound I got with them. It was smooth and fat and yet cut like a knife. At the time I had my Ferarri Red Les Paul Standard outta the gibson custom shop (limited edition type thing) with stock pups and Ebony board and it was just a HUGE sound..and it was still "warm". Sounded much better than either pedal on it's own for warmth, AND better than the Marshall's gain channel!

But, I know that prolly isn't much help, other than to say sometimes try to goof around with a few things...most of the time it will sound like @$$, but sometimes it can be magic! :D

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

The best metal pedal would be an aluminium one, kinda light, but tuff enuff!

Chinese aluminium is rather soft and can bend. Dont touch Arion and Ibanez Soundtank, they are plastic.

:D

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

Pay the money for a Tonebone Hotbritish, Banzai Fireball, or Fulltone Dist. Pro

Or, Marshall Gov'nr or Jackhammer, Keeley or Spina modded Boss distortion/metalzone.

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

Boss OD-20 Twin Pedal. It's got pretty much every Boss Distortion or Overdrive pedal built into one box. Great tone! (Plus it has a turbo range on the gain, so you can get as ridiculously high-gain as you'll EVER need)

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

This may go over like a turd in a punch bowl, BUT, I use a Boss SD-1 (Spina modded..), and it does metal just famously thru my Marshall. I think the MT-2 works best thru a clean amp. I love the EQ-ing capacity of the MT-2, but the gain is just too much buzz, and not enuff crunch for me. But I take more of an old school approach to get a distorted sound, so if the shoe fits...

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

original ProCo Rat into a Marshall Plexi ---> BRUTAL :firedevil

It's got lots of others that are not boss, also!

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

Check Out My Soundclips On Tips And Clips
I Record It All With Metalzone
No Other Pedal.

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

it´s allamatter of TASTE
we all know that.. but with the wrong amp and wrong pickups and wrong guitar woods, you can TWIKLE AS A FORNICATOR and you will not LIKE Metalzone.
ahahahahahahahahahaahhah

Re: what is the best metal pedal?

The MXR Distortion + is great for vintage Maiden, but for the excellent modern Maiden tone it's going to take some Marshall tube distortion and an Ibanez tube screamer, sorry man.
