What is the best modeling amp?

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

The H&K Zentera gets the vote for my pick, but it's also quite a bit more expensive than the other options out there.

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

my vote goes to the line 6 duoverb. you can get one use for 500 USD (i know cause i bought 2 this way). It has all of the amazing tone from the vetta but with simple controls (and no useless effects crap)

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

I would have to go with two options, the Line6 Flextone´s and the Rolands VGA amplifiers they´re great, with or without the gk pickup, its amazing.

Cant say I'd recomend it, the Vox ADVT series just outclasses it as far as tone.

The Valvetronix Vox stuff has "feel".....Something alot of other modeling amps lack...Tone is great, but feel is important..

I dont like complete solid state sound.

But I think the vox ADVT series have about the best tone of anything ive played on, even better than a fender devile I tried out at the guitar shop.
Its not only the feel about the vox, its just the tone in general. The roland has no tone, after playing on my vox for about 10mins then pluging into my roland, im disgusted, quite literaly. Im going to try to sell it and totaly overhaul my tele.

One guy had some all hardwood stained mesa that blew it away tho, wish I knew what model it was, had a tweed woven front grill that was awesome.

Sounds like either a Mk3 or a MK4....

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

I really like the Flextone III. I never tried thoroughly the ADVT series.
I have a POD2.0 at the moment and I get some AMAZING clean tones out of it, I constantly use the blackpanel model. I'm wondering how the real thing sounds because WOW...
Also for high gain stuff the POD 2.0 is very good. I haven't got much experience with modellers though :(

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

I have a Flextone III, and was considering the VOX, but what turned me off about the VOX was its grouping of effects, i like flanger/reverb. no i want to play with the flange, and the reverb seperately, not on the same knobby. I like the Flextone III, actually i thinks its a pure copy of the vox as far as tone..just has more stuff on it. Plus the pedal's are cool:)

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

I'm surprised nobody said Behringer Vampire head. I played one of these through a Marshall 4 x 12 cab and it just blowed me away :32: I really liked the ability to change cabinet models with amp models. Go from 4 x 12 to 1 x 12 on leads. Something the VOX can't do.

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

Actually, the Vox 60 and 120 series of heads and combos do have separate controls for: Pedals, Modulating FX(flanger, chorus, phaser, etc.), Delay, and Reverb.

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

Before answering that question, three points:

1) what is your budget. If you're looking for a cheap one, get an Pandora.
2) what is your musical style? For high gain, get a POD. For more cleans, tyhe Valvetronic is better.
3) what is your purpose with the modeler? Do you want to gig with it, or use it for traveling or on a computer.

So to find out what is the best modeler for you, keep those questions in mind!
Just my 2 ct.

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

as far as a total package..options, sounds, fx, models, etc, etc. I don't think you can beat a vetta as far as modeling amps go...two amps at once, moving things anywhere in the fx chain...I don't remember off hand, but there's something like 55 or 70 some odd amp models...

and I also happen to be selling mine

Re: What is the best modeling amp?

I suppose much of it depends on your budget. If you have enough to spend it sounds like the Vox Valvetronics are the way to go. If you're on a budget the Roland Cube 30 or 60 might be the best choice. Anyway, I'm sure alot of it is individual choice. No doubt, the technology on these amps is improving.

Sincerely,
CoachC
