What is the best Pedal for High Gain Marshall Tone?

I am looking for the best overdrive/distortion pedal for my 18 watt Fender Deluxe Reverb amp to give me the Marshall/Mesa high gain overdrive tone. Why don't I buy a Marshall or Boogie? Because I have a ringing in my ear/tinites and cannot handle the high volume/watts anymore.

modern marshalls and boogies with master volume doesn't need to be loud to get that overdriven sound

DS-1 Modded by John. Sounds like a Mashall in a box, no joke.

Yup, I'd also say the modded DS-1 by John. Or a Hot British Tonebone, Fulltone Fulldrive II if you want to spend closer to $200.

Hello Stratcat....The modded DS-1 sounds like a JCM 800 with alot of harmonic content...Another great pedal that you could pick up cheap(And I use one)is the Marshall JackHammer...This is the only pedal I've not modded..It has an overdrive mode and a distortion mode with plenty of lowend and lots of tonal adjustment..The overdrive side gives you the tight crunchy Marshall tones and the distortion mode reminds me of the darker, fuzzier and gainey Dual Rectifier tones...It's a great bang for the buck buddy...

The best "Marshall in a box" pedals I ever heard are:

Ibanez Tube King
Barber Direct Drive SS
Sans Amp GT2

All have that real, not fuzzy, defined Marshall character.

For my money, the Barber Direct Drive SS is amazing, flexible as hell, true bypass, and is only $130 brand new. The crunch, definition, and balls it has is astounding. No lie.

Hey John! I used to have a Marshall Jackhammer a while back but sold it for a reason i can't remember... of yeah to get my Tonebone (which broke aaaargh) but did you say you can mod JH's? what exactly do you do to it? how does it sound afterwards? Any sound clips? I remember really loving the OD mode on that thing.

Major ditto on the Barber DDSS, it rules! The Tonebone Hot British would be even better if you want really high gain with the Marshall sound.

Cheers,

My JackHammer is stock and untouched by my tweaky hands! :32: I've never modded one of these pedals? I like the JH just as it is...Maybe this pedal was actually voiced by musicians because they got it right..???

I have a Johnson DEQ2 (distortion/eq) gets an awesome marshall tone, and boogie tone is almost possible. Might be hard to find, but i bought it new (according to the shop owner)

Thanks for all the great feedback guys :) I got the Jackhammer under Johns recommendation, and this pedal nails the Marshall Crunch/High gain Tone to the Bone
